What would you trade for 5711a

Hey guys wanted to ask a quick hypothetical question.

I have been on the waitlist for a blue 5711 for a while. Lets assume that I become extremely lucky and that the watch becomes available in the next 6 months. I would most likely have to move a sports piece to make room for the 5711a.

I have 3 watches that I love and would unfortunately need to move 1

Option 1= Trade/sell blue dial 15400. This is a very special watch as it is my first serious watch and the watch that got me into collecting. Got it retail at the boutique in 2012. Out of the three pieces has sentimental value because it is the watch that started it all for me. However, I understand that there is overlap as both are steel sport watches with blue dials.

Option 2= Trade/sell white dial 15400.OR on bracelet. Upgraded this watch from the leather model to full bracelet. Really like this watch and like the contrast that comes with an all gold sports watch.

Option 3= Trade/sell brand new ceramic Daytona black dial. Have not even sized this watch and hoping that I am not put in a position where I need to move it. Was very hard to source and obtained it MSRP after a long time search.

Would love to hear some thoughts! Hope everyone stays safe.

ps. Also selling my Hublot Big Bang all carbon. But given the hit Hublot has taken on the secondary market don't really know how easy will be to let go and at what value.

Option 1: it's special to you. Sentimental value is priceless. Definitely don't sell this one.

Option 2: you upgraded to the full bracelet, which shows you like it a lot. There's some sentimental value - so I'd keep it.

Option 3: you got it at MSRP, but you didn't intend to wear it (I guess!). You've kept it pristine and new so that you can sell it if you needed to. I'd sell this one! You can easily get another one at an inflated price.

Seems like an easy decision. Option 1 is not even an option. So it's Options 2 and 3. I'd sell the Daytona.

Since you haven’t worn the Daytona, the easiest answer is to sell it and take advantage of the inflated price relative to retail.

But I’d also say consider selling #1 despite the sentimental value. Hear me out. My first grail was a steel AP 25860. I loved it and thought it was a forever watch. But a little over a year ago I saw the rose gold 25960 on a bracelet and 26022 on a strap. At the time, I wanted to consolidate and the steel AP needed to go for the gold one to come in. So while I do occasionally think about it, I’m thrilled to have the gold ROC (incidentally on a strap and bracelet) be my one and only AP. You would still have the gold AP and your new blue steel watch will hopefully be the 5711. Then you’d have an awesome Trinity.

I would not get the 5711.

I would keep those 3 watches. I would not take a 5711 over any of those 3.

I would not sell anything. Your assumption is that you will receive the 5711/1A at retail price from an AD. We all know this is not easy, unless you have spent tons at the AD. Good luck though as the seemingly impossible can happen. If you were lucky enough to get a 116500 at MSRP, maybe you can pull off a 5711/1A at MSRP.

I think it was a hypothetical question, should he be able to get a 5711. I didn’t read the post that he was going to sell anything before he got the 5711.

Sell 1 and 2 if the 5711/1a comes in. Daytona and 5711/1a are all you need.

If you need to sell the Daytona is the best option, prices of used Rolex sports have dropped a bit but the unworn stickered examples are moving, I made the mistake of selling some Rolex watches to make way for the 5711 and was a little bit underwhelmed when it arrived so keep them all if you can.

Excellent way to get rid of an asset of declining value.
