Buying a TT Daytona
Hey,
I’m trying to buy the 116503 two-tone daytona model with the black dial. It would be the first Rolex watch for me, which means I have no buying history etc. Today I walked into my local AD and they told me that they dont have a single sports rolex model and that I can forget buying a daytona within the next years. She said maybe in 8 years... and the waiting lists are closed since last year. I already asked them last December about the daytona. They told be I should come back next year (January) as they will have more information then... I know that it’s extremely hard to get stainless steel models but also a reason for me to by a tt model. I would be happy for some feedback. Is that normal? That they dont have ANY sports models? That they told me there will be basically no chance to get one in the next years? Maybe it’s because of corona? The other option would be grey-market. Does anyone have recommendations here? Excited about your thoughts on that! |

I would have thought a TT Daytona, could be had within a reasonable timescale, 8 years sounds ridiculous.
I would try another AD. |

My experience is from May a year ago - they didn’t have the 116503 black in store but they got me one in three weeks’ time.
I very much doubt that the situation with the tts has gotten so bad since last year that you should wait for years... Maybe you should visit a few other ADs

Got one recently with a month wait, after seeing it in the case a few times. With recent events, who knows, but 8 years is a SS timeline, not a TT.

Most ad’s should be able to order one. 1-3 months wait for the TT Daytona I was told by WoS in London.

Thanks for your opinions, I will call another AD tomorrow but there are not lot of sellers in my area as I’m not from a big city. I was just wondering if Rolex decreased their watches on the market and their production due to corona (that the prices dont drop). However, I dont think thats the only case here as I feel like my ad doesnt even want me to sell a rolex. |

It is highly unlikely that the T/T Daytona 116503 is in short supply. I am from Ireland & in 2017 & 2018 have purchased two T/T Daytona’s reference 116503 from the same Grey Dealer in the North of England at considerable savings. There is no scarcity of T/T Daytona’s either in Ireland or the UK I suggest you shop around & you are sure to find one. Are you sure you specified "two-tone Daytona" to the SA? Maybe they assumed you meant SS, because 8 year quote would make a lot more sense if this was the case.

+1. Also would go grey on this piece and likely see some savings. It’s a gorgeous watch btw. Go for it!

That's a joke. Never go there again. Unless they thought you were asking for the steel model. Either way their loss.
In the next AD ask for a discount as well. They'll tell you the story about sports model etc. but let's not kid ourselves, during this recession you're buying a piece which traded below list pre-crisis. For better results, wait for a few months until they have really started feeling the pain. |

The 116503 with the black dial seems to be a more popular version of the TT Daytona. As many have suggested to get a discount by buying pre owned, but at this time I am not seeing real discounts on that configuration. Call multiple ADs and let them know what configuration you are after but the wait time and possible AD games may make it not worth your time or energy. On the Rolex forum for sale is a nearly new 116503 in your desired config check it out. I would start talking and get a deal today.

Thank you for your opinions! I called some AD, which are based in my country yesterday, and luckily, I found one which has the 116503 in stock. It's quite a big AD, maybe the biggest in my country and it's based in our capital city. I think they have more watches in stock than my local AD. I already told them I would buy the watch and made a "small" payment upfront. Can't wait to travel there in weeks to get the watch :)
I haven't asked for discounts as I wouldn't have had a chance in my opinion. I also phoned some other AD's, as well. Furthermore, the "head-quarter" of my local AD they told me the same thing as the saleswoman. They don't have any Rolex sports models in stock, and their waiting lists for ss models are full. Moreover, they didn't offer to order the TT-model for me... P.S.: I made clear that I'm not only interested in ss models when I walked into my local AD. I asked them if there are ANY models in stock/ available without years of waiting. Won't by a Rolex from them anymore, I felt like "No, sorry, we don't have ANY Rolex sports models without waiting eight years. Bye!". |
