Timing Question

HI all, looking for some thoughts and opinions from the forum. I purchased a 16618 about 3 months ago. Love it! Anyhow its approx a 2002 model in excellent condition. I do not know the watches service history.

The watch has been consistently running around 8 seconds per day fast. Not the end of the world I know, but I have been spoiled by my 114060 which is about +1 second per day and all my other models which were significantly better.

Is it worth having my very qualified independent regulate the watch or would you leave it be? I can live with the timing as it has been solidly consistent, but I would like to get it down to about plus 2 -4 seconds if I could. Thoughts?

Thanks,

I'd leave it be - do you really notice a difference of 8 seconds when wearing the watch...

If you're timing them to that extent in the first place - it may bother you - at that point I'd get it serviced.

I have to be honest that I put them on the wrist set the time and go - as long as it's within reason no issues.

Even running like you state about 8 seconds fast per day is 99.92% accurate seeing there are 86400 seconds in a day.And even if they regulate it on a timing machine to say +2/4 seconds this dont always mean it will perform exactly the same on the wrist. The most important thing with any mechanical movement is consistency myself would leave it alone. But seeing watch is around 18 years old with no service history perhaps budget for a full RSC service sooner than later

I think you will enjoy your watch more if you have it serviced. Accuracy can be improved and since you don't know the history a service will give you peace of mind that all is well.

Have it regulated... it's cheap, and peace of mind is a wonderful thing.

This.

And it may very well come back more accurate anyway?

This.

And if the watchmaker sees that the watch might need a service you'll know before you actually start getting excessive wear & tear.

If you do get a service it will likely tell time much better. I know (padi56) that there are 31,557,600 seconds in a year, and that's a lot of time keeping. However. I also know I have a 30 year old DD that was serviced recently and is now between .5 and 1 second per day fast. I think that's a tribute to good watch makers and good watch service folks.

This is the way I am going to go, and as Bas says above, if it looks like I need a full service the watchmaker will let me know. Thanks for the input everyone.
