Sub Date vs DJ41 Blue Roman Numeral Dial WG bezel
I’m really torn on which watch to get. The Sub Date is a classic and can be worn for basically any occasion. But the DJ41 with the WG Bezel and the blue face just POPS!! It’s stunning in the light and a true dress watch. Would get the jubilee with the DJ

It depends on the percentage of formal vs informal wear. The Datejust is a work/semi-formal watch that can do casual and the Sub is a sports watch that can do work/semi-formal. It's a matter of emphasis.

I’d go Sub first and then get the DJ41 later on.

DJ in blue, I think its a beautiful piece that really stands out. The sub is a classic and can't miss but does nothing for me unless in PM or TT.

Have had them both and currently have the DJ41 in rhodium. My *current perspective is that there are a lot of diver watches out there that are similar to the sub. That drove me *this time to the DJ41 and I have a Tudor Pelagos as my sport watch. I reserve the right to change my perspective though

If I were you’d I’d sell that and get the Sub and the Blue DJ, then you have sporty and dressier, oyster and jubilee.

I have a DJ II Blue Romans w Fluted Bezel. It is a beautiful watch. I have a number of other Rolex sport watches including a couple of Subs. The DJ gets worn once every 4-6 weeks. The Subs and GMT’s much more. The DJ is more of a specialty watch for me.

If it were me, I’d pull the trigger on the DJ. But that’s because I’m looking for a dressier watch to add to my collection.

DJ41 over Sub any day. It also depends on your wrist size. DJ41 fits better, lower profile case and can be worn with semi-formal or casual attire.

I wouldn't say the DJ41 is a true dress watch. It is too big for that use, unless you have massive wrists. Also, "a true dress watch" is more akin to a Patek Calatrava. DJ41 can be worn with a suit and look amazing though, so if that is what you mean then sure.
The Submariner is a classic but if you have a GMT it'll be a bit repetitive. Also, I'm biased against the modern maxi-case but you may not care at all. Buy the watch you truly want and forget the other factors. That is what is going to make you truly happy. Don't buy a Sub because it is the classic. |
