Thinking about buying
Hello,
Everyone I am thinking of buy a Rolex for my new Gentleman friend and I am looking at one from Craigslist. I am not that familiar with these watches and the person is asking $13,000.00. The bezel and the face are covered with diamonds and rubies and it is 18k gold. Does this seem like a fair price for this type of watch? It says it is a Day-Date.. This is the link if anyone wants to take a look for me and help, I would really appreciate it.. http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/jwl/1076184214.html |

I think if your buying your first Rolex you should strool into the local AD...buy something you know is real. Watches from Craig's List appear often on this forum and seldom do they turn out to be real...besides, just my opinion, the watch is "out there".

Thanks for the advice Craig, I thought it was a little over the top myself, but it seems to be what my friend gravitates towards.

Craig is absolutely spot on, if your nor familiar with the watch, pop into an AD, get the feel, you don't have to but tho :-), have a look through the For Sale / Trade section here on TRF, you'll be surprised what pops up, and also Sellers who's who. You've come to the right place for advice, ask questions wander around, look at reviews from people who own the watch being reviewed. Enjoy, Dave.

I would try a Rolex AD as they need the business. Sales are way down, on the higher end Rolex watches you can get 15% to 20% off. If you go to a Rolex AD who will not go down on the price keep looking. If you hear this lie "Rolex will not let us discount" run away the mark up on Rolex is about 40% for ADs. High end Rolex watches are not selling so you are the Woman with the power as you are the buyer.
It might also well be worth your time to get on the Rolex web site (get some AD phone numbers) and call ADs around your State and States next to yours. I have flown to other states save $1,500 ect which was well worth the flight and I had a small mini-trip as well. Any Rolex AD can fix/work on your watch. It does not matter where you buy it so go with the AD who respects you enough to save you some money. Good luck to you.

You might consider looking at a nice tu-tone Datejust...that way if he turns out to be an "old" gentleman friend you won't be out $10K...there are a number of nice watches for sale on the forum and if you have any questions come back here and I promise someone will chime in...might have something to do with a lady wanting to buy a gentleman a $13,000 watch....all my wife bought me was a Timex and it needs a battery already. Where is Steve when you need him!

In the picture I'm the guy on the far right...I only have one tooth and bathe on Saturdays, but for a Rolex President I could change.

Unfortunately, he recently started having seizures and is on medication now (phenobarbital). The seizures have stopped since starting meds 2 weeks ago. Very frightening seeing a little dog convulsing. |
