I prefer a standalone store for high-end lux items.

At this time the future of shopping malls is questionable. These days traditional anchor tenants such as Macys, Nordstrom, JC Penney etc... are closing stores, leaving malls in the position of having vacant buildings/ store fronts.

I avoid ADs in general. But on a serious note, I don't mind malls.

NorCal has a great mall AD where i am at. They are moving into a larger space with a huge dedicated Rolex section and sounds like they are bringing Tudor in. No issues with mall AD, but i imagine the mall brings more randoms into their store with no plan on buying.

About 10 years ago I bought my Rolex from the Ben Bridge store at Stonestown Shopping Center, San Francisco. At that time Jade Galore was a jewelry/watch store that was also a Rolex AD , also located within the Stonestown Mall.
These days Ben Bridge no longer has a store at Stonestown, and I don't think the other Bay Area Malls with BB stores carry Rolex. Jade Galore is still there, but that shop lost its Rolex AD account.
Now in SF Rolex has only two AD's. The Rolex Boutique downtown, owned and operated by Tourneau. Also downtown is Shreve and Company jewelry store, which does carry Rolex.

The AD in stand alone is leading that space as well.

Think about all the times you can stop into the AD at the mall when you wife or kids want to go to the mall.

Roseville is a good mall !
I believe most of the Southern California Ben Bridge stores do still carry Rolex. But in Nor Cal, none that I know of do.
I have good memories of my Rolex purchase the Stonestown, SF, Ben Bridge, December, 2010.The stores salespeople and store manager were friendly and gave me a box of chocolates

A previous poster also mentioned it but in my town the best centrally located mall is the Rodeo Drive/Fifth Avenue of our city. With just a couple of exceptions all of the luxury brand boutiques are there such as LV, Gucci, Prada, Fendi, Louboutin, etc as well as Saks, Neimans, and Nordstrom as anchors. Along with the Rolex Boutique (my AD) Omega, Panerai, Hublot, Breitling, and Tag Heuer also have brand only stores. The AD that owns my Boutique also has a free standing store with Rolex and jewelry a couple miles away.
I choose my dealer because my SA of 22 years is there and I am always treated with courtesy and friendliness, their location doesn’t really matter to me. PS: your Rolex purchase is given to you in a green Rolex bag inside of a plain brown bag. There is always an off duty LE officer in the store and I think they will escort you out if you ask.

I like being able to get ice cream and a Rolex at the same time. So yes to ADs in malls
