Rolex Hulk dilemma

Hi everyone,

I am not from US and i am wondering if i can get some advice here.
As you know it is very difficult to get Rolex Hulk from AD and i heard from youtube rumors, it may get discontinued next year.
As such even if i am willing to wait from AD, it may not even be possible, i suppose.
Therefore, i have decided that I would like to get a Rolex hulk from grey dealers/preowned and the difference from a 2019 and 2014 watch is around close to 2000USD.
The 2019 piece is BNIB and the 2014 piece is mint/unpolished with slight hairlines.
Both come with complete box and papers.
In your opinion, which one to get or which is more worth to get?
Is the top up of almost 2000USD worth it?
Is buying older one pose any issue at all?

Thank you!

J

A brand new hulk can be gotten for 19k+ SGD. Just go with the newer one for a peace of mind lah. A 2014 watch will probably need a service soon in a couple of years' which can cost more than a thousand SGD so might as well just get the newer BNIB one now.

If the 2019 genuinely is brand new, I'd pay the extra.

Rolex Hulk dilemma

I’d get the 2019 because it will have leftover warranty that will cover you for at least 3.5 years. Saving $2000 isn’t worth it if you would end up having to send it in for a service

Thanks guys, all seemed to favor the BNIB.
Appreciate the opinion given.

Praticality aside, isn't Mark 1 more desirable (and valuable) than later releases?

This is fairly true, but to the common layman buying a hulk, a hulk is a hulk and he is not going to bother if it's Mark 1 or Mark 100

$2000 is a lot of money. And it's the same watch, be it 2014 or 2019. I will buy the cheaper one and pocket the $2000. The watch will run problem free for another 5 years, so why worry about service now?

Actually i read somewhere, the older hulk has more chalky green and the later ones has a more vibrant green.
Is that true?
I have not hold one on my hand yet to be honest.

I seem to agree with @Soarer here. As long as the watch is in good condition with all the box, papers, hang tags, I'd say save the $2k and use it for something else. People that own this type of watch won't be beating it around and they're built to last unless you absolutely abuse it. But you'd be able to tell if it was too. Just my $.02...

Get the 19. The $2000 is worth it. The 2014 will be due for service in a year or so and will cost around $800 anyway.

There is of course a difference, but unless you put them side by side, chances are that you're not going really going to be able to tell unless you are very familiar

I’m with most here, go BNIB cos that difference is though significant, should be considered after you factor a service on the older watch.

KIV also a difference if and when you sell.

Finally, do your research on the seller and make sure they’re trusted.

Why do everyone assume that service is essential after 5 years? Most Rolex owners never service their watches, which run flawlessly for decades, regardless.

I would save $2000 and spend it on a mini cruise next year ( :) )
