I'm in this camp. Plus if you buy grey you will have your sub NOW instead of some indeterminate time in the future. Assuming the AD even follows through.

It would be interesting to see how Rolex controls this and to make sure this doesn't happen with AD's. It gives a pretty bad buying experience to new Rolex owners.

UK AD allocation process

I wouldn’t buy a watch I didn’t want just to play a game & then trying to selling it at few K loss & probably still not guaranteed a sub at the end of it.

Go grey and have it on your wrist tomorrow, life’s too short

A few questions, it seems that you are not interested in a DateJust, do you want or have a collection of watches, or do you want the sub as a one and only? If you don’t mind having more than one watch, does your AD sell any brands other than Rolex? If you are ok with more than one watch would you consider buying from your AD something like an Omega, Tudor or IWC or some other good brand that is not in such high demand? If you are ok with all this, maybe ask your AD if getting another brand would help. This is the strategy I have employed, although I do like DateJusts, and have purchased a couple of them as well as things like Omega, Tudor and IWC, all watches that I wanted to own. It has helped me get in demand pieces like Pepsi, Daytonas and DSSD JC.

If none of the above makes sense, I’d go grey.

If the extra $2k for grey makes a big difference to you, I’d kinda suggest omega as something equally well made and engineered which is usually cheaper vs Rolex like for like, and can get a discount on.

If you travel a lot, check out ADs at airports, you might randomly stumble in when they have had a recent delivery and luck out.

I am in no rush to purchase but would one day like to get my hands on a sub and other sports models and it seems the only way to do this is to play the game. Appreciate any advice. Thanks
Remember if your thinking of off loading the dj quickly you may not even have the warrenty card for a year......this will complicate selling it unless your prepared to take a hit.....the other thing is if you sell the dj and the ad finds out you may get black listed too.....save yourself the hassle and pay a small premium for a grey one other wise youll just appear like a desperate fool and they will never respect you anyway.....either way good luck with the hunt
