Is It So Difficult to Buff the Back Side of The Lugs (Screw Driver Scratches)
Guys,
Just notice some minor screw driver scratches on the back side of the lugs of my GMT TT Rootbeer. I purchased it pre owned from my trusted dealer. Then brought the watch back to him and asked him to buff the back side of the lugs....He said he can do it but the process would destroy the brush pattern on the back of the watch....the pattern wouldn't be uniform again.... Then he said it is quite normal for a pre owned watch to have that kind of scratches.... Is it really that difficult to buff the back side of the lugs of a Rolex? Is it possible that somebody else could do the job? Anybody here has the experience of buffing the back side of the lugs of Rolex? Regards,

He’s right. I wouldn’t take metal off doing that myself. Nobody sees the backside of the lugs. What it is that you’re concerned about?

Buy a Bergeon fibre scratch pen and a few strokes and the scratches are gone in 30 seconds or less.
Don't worry , you don't take metal off and a very easy DIY. Doing this for decades whenever I mess up and you can't see a thing .

The back lug has a circular (relative to the case) brush right? You can’t just take a brush and go back and forth to rebrush it. You have to dismantle the watch, and hold the case. Then either spin it against a brush pad or mount it steady on a case holder and use a spinning brush against it. I’m not a polisher but thats how I imagine the process needed to get the circular brush finish.

i fail to see why you would want to go through the trouble to brush the back side. when do you EVER see the back side of your watch?

The scratches should be polished out first. Then apply Your choice of abrasive in a radial motion.
You must visualize a single short arc, a radius from the caseback edge to the lug. Then practice that motion like a golfer who takes practice swings before stroking the ball, and proceed move the abrasive along that pre-visualized arc. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
