Self winding issue?
Hi all, I purchased a datejust 1601, year 1978 in great condition. With a full winding it runs about 40-45 hours before running out of power.. I wear it about 10 hours each day. Is there an issue with the self winding mechanism?

My 1601 from 1977 has a power reserve of less than two days, so I would say yours is OK, unless I'm missing something and I didn't understand your question.

It sounds to me that the OP is saying it stops running even though he is wearing it 10 hours per day. The description is confusing, but if I'm understanding correctly, I would say that the auto-winding may not be operating efficiently. A full manual wind plus 10 hours of (active) wearing per day should be enough to keep it going longer than that. Do you know the service history of the watch? Have you seen the movement?

Seems fine to me. My 1603 runs for ~50 hours and that’s within spec. However if you have to keep winding it then yeah something isn’t right.

I have a 1630 and it runs fine. As to how many hours it will run fully wound, off my wrist I’ve frankly never bothered to check.

I suggest that the OP clarify the question he is asking. Everyone seems to be making different assumptions. Is this about power reserve while not being worn? Or auto-winding while being worn?

If you are wearing it for 10 hours a day after winding it, and it still stops after 45 hours, then, yes - the auto-wind is likely not working.
