Deep Sea

Is there a mechanical or engineering reason why the Deep Sea could not be made in platinum?

If it were available I would buy it instantly

Other than it would probably way a pound. There is not reason why it could not be, but the true Rolex tool watches are made in Stainless (e.g., Sea Dweller, DSSD, Submariner, etc.).

If that's the case the true Rolex tool watches are the ones that never came in gold or TT:

DSSD
Sea Dweller

If they made it in platinum, they wouldn't have made it in SS as both look the same and one version would take away business from the other.

Why pay platinum prices when you can get the same look for 1/8 the cost.

This probably explains why the YMII only comes in WG and YG.

I believe had they come with a SS YMII, you'd find more TRF members here would own one.

If you want a precious metal diver so badly with a platinum look, how about the WG Smurf SubDate? It comes with all the bells and whistle like the Deepsea (Glidelock, diver extension, cerachrome bezel). Only difference is the depth-rating.

It'll put you back about $26,000 though.

I believe a pure platinum Deepsea would cost you something like at least $70,000 if not more. Platinum Futures were trading at $1133 per troy ounce today. Gold was at something like $924 per troy ounce.

Big difference!

12 months! Are you sure?

I guess they're not coming into the AU market fast enough.

If your name is Bill Gates and you have a death wish...I see no problem with it

If you want to buy an insanely expensive watch just go for a Plat DD or Masterpiece
