Rolex at a resort in the Dominican Republic...
Back in early February, my wife and I were lucky enough to take a week off so we went down to an all-inclusive resort in the Dominican Republic. At that time, I was weighing my options on which "real" watch I wanted to get, be it an Omega, Panerai, IWC or Rolex.
As I'm sure many of you can appreciate, I was quite aware of what watches other guys were wearing. I went to a swim up bar, and I noticed this guy wearing a watch which really caught my eye. I asked him what he was wearing, and he told me that it was a Rolex GMT (black bezel). He said that he and 5 of his friends went out and bought themselves Rolexes once they graduated college, and that he had his for 14 years now, and never once had a problem with it. He strongly encouraged me to buy a Rolex, and said that I would never regret it! Couldn't get the watch out of my mind, and have since bought my first Rolex, a SS GMT II C. Great endorsement. I have to say, I find that every Rolex owner that I have come across, is very passionate about their watch, and they get excited when you strike up a conversation about it! It's almost a "brother / sisterhood" among strangers you meet from around the world. Thought I'd share that story... |

Thanks for sharing that story. I'd say other people have been more influential in my buying a rolex *i.e. these forums* than any Rolex advertisement or Rolex AD for that matter.
Again, I love it when you run into another ROLEX fan. It's just akward when you run into that guy who's either got a fake and doesn't want to talk about his watch, or he's a dude who just bought one because he can. |
