Sea Dweller/Sub Two-tone swap
I am meeting with a local gentleman tomorrow who is interested in trading his D serial Two-tone Sub for my F serial Sea Dweller. I haven't seen it yet but he tells me it is in perfect condition, as is mine. I think it is a black face, not a blusey. I'm fairly new to Rolex trading/buying/selling, can someone tell me what you think? Would this be a good swap? TIA!

The TT Sub is actually worth more then your SD so you'll come out on top if no money is exchanged. Also depends if you want a TT.

Sounds like you're getting the better of the deal. He's offering up a gold watch for stainless steel. Only question is why? He's losing on this deal.
If it's in as good a shape as he says it is and authentic, I'd suspect you're winning on this deal on cost alone. He probably thinks the SD is an investment opportunity seeing as the watch has been discontinued and why he's offering up a TT gold watch. You can always sell the TT Sub and then use some of that money to either buy back another SD and more than likely, pocket a few extra $$$ on the price difference. |

That's kind of what I was thinking. My plan would be to trade the SD and sell the TT toward the purchase of a Daytona. I'll see how it looks tomorrow. On a side note, it kind of surprises me that my SD hasn't sold. I wonder why??

Make sure his watch is authentic! You never know! But if it is, then it would definitely be a good trade!

I would not do that trade. Long term, SS is always worth more than TT

Well I did the trade. And you know, I'm pleasantly surprised with it. I never thought I'd like the Bluesy but I do. I thought they were a little too flashy for me, even a little on the gaudy side but I guess I was wrong. I think I'll hang onto it for a while.

personally, keep the SD. it is a awesome watch, but then again, trading for a SS|18K watch, not a bad trade up

Wow... you ended up with a Bluesy for a SD?
I think you made the correct choice. I wouldn't even have to think about this one. A no brainer. You now have one of the most spectacular pieces in their sports line-up. Congrats! |

For those that wanted pictures. I am really beginning to like this thing and may keep it. Why is it that every photo I've seen of a yellow gold Rolex looks like it is scratched up? If you look at the watch in person you can hardly find a scratch but in a lot of the pictures it looks scratched up badly. Maybe why I have never considered a yellow gold watch in the past. Okay, here are the pics.

I would have made that deal (if it were black) in a heart-beat..
You cannot get a D serial TT Sub for what you can buy another F serial SD for... ................... (However, I won't go blue ...)..........

Well I'm glad I did then. And I actually like the blue now, very much. I never liked the black and gold and still don't.

Nice trade! Done well. And you got yourself a beautiful watch to boot. A true classic and well worth holding on to since Rolex announced the new TT Sub, which IMO does not do its predecessor any justice with regards to that beautiful blue dial. Wear it and enjoy it. That watch goes well with all.
