Hey guys, so I FINALLY bought the 94200 that I have been looking for for such a long time! It's en route. I know it will need a service. It doesn't come with papers. The age, I believe is the late 1970's...see picture below. My question is, should I have Bob Ridley service the watch or send it direct to Rolex? Which would you do? Do the service papers from Rolex help retain value at all? Thanks!

I think the service papers might add value, but I'd send it to Bob Ridley. He'll be much more attentive to your needs. You never know what RSC might do. Could replace parts you don't want replaced. They have been known to swap out valuable dials. In that case, the papers wouldn't outweigh the loss of the dial.

And for some older models, RSC won't work on them.

With Bob you know who is doing your work and you can talk to him through the process and give him feedback.

I know you've been looking for a long time. I'd take it to Bob as well. My watchmaker, w/ Rolex parts account, did mine and was still able to get the bezel insert, crystal, and seals. You don't want RSC to mess with the dial or hands.

Can´t help you with your service dilemma I´m afraid.

With the serial # you should be able to date the watch quite accurate.

Bob just made my 5513 all Rolex original and gave great advice on bezel inserts and hands.

Super piece. I am going to box up my 1675 this weekend and ship it off to Bob for a quote and hopefully some Restoration work. Bob is a very cool man. He phoned me today and we talked in depth about my watch for a half hour.

I have never seen that combo with the black dial and silver sub dials, usually white.

I thought you were looking for the silver dial with the rotating bezel? But all in all, you can't get too picky as these are hard to find. And like I said that dial combo really rocks. It's gonna go great with your tux on your wedding day.

Thanks, Jeff....yep I was shooting for the silver dial until I came to find out that the dial looks somewhat champagne in the sun...I don't do well with gold...then I came across this beauty and couldn't pass it up. I have never seen the subdials raised like that either. I look forward to receiving it.

I am sure that it will need a cleaning and an overhaul. I don't believe that it has been serviced in a while.
