Scratch the Itch???

It’s been awhile since my last incoming so I stopped by my AD today to see what they had. I’ve been seriously contemplating a PM piece in my collection, and I’m thinking one of these bad boys might scratch the itch. Fellow enablers, what do you think?!?

You’re winning either way! Platona is probably harder to come by.

They were both a perfect fit! AD provided the gloves. I actually burned through 3 of them: 1 for the DD in the display case, 1 for the Playtona and 1 for a BLNR that was “sold” to another customer (aka from the safe).

You make a great point Tom... I had my eye on the DD but then my SA made the Playtona “magically appear” from the back. Now I’m conflicted and need to sleep on it. First world problems I suppose.... sigh

Well, if you have the funds to get a DD down the road I would jump on the Platona now. Any AD can always order a DD. And I just recently got a good discount on mine. But I doubt you would get a discount on a Platona.
So my vote would be get the Platona now and the DD later. The Platona would make a really nice dress watch! That ice blue is a really nice and unique color.

I agree with this, the Platinum Daytona isn't "easy" to come by. If you enjoy that series and have the funds, it is a no-brainer. The DD will always be there when you are ready, even at a discount most of the times. Unless the YouTubers keep buying those DDs!

Haven’t before seen an AD that require someone to put gloves to try a watch. From those 2 Plat Daytona but they are not in the same league moneywise

I mean, those are two VERY different Rolex watches. Which PM do you prefer? I would think that would make the decision much easier.

Thanks for everyone’s replies and feedback. Truth is, I never really even considered the Playtona until I saw it in the metal. It has definitely captivated me WAY more than anticipated. To the above posters point, they aren’t even in the same league from a price perspective which is making the struggle real. Part of me thinks that if I’m going to spend $75K, maybe go for the DD and a Daytona 116508 with Green bezel?? Decisions decisions.

The glove thing is new with COVID and they even spray them with a special Rolex branded cleaner after you try them on which Rolex sells to them at an absurd price!

Which one do you want?

I would go DD. But if I had to ask, I wouldn't be buying. Is your subconscious trying to tell you that you don't want either of them enough? It's a sanity check that is worth doing before you buy something. If you want them both equally it's easy - if more expensive.

All the best with it.

Thanks Harry. I was set on the DD until I saw the platinum Daytona. It truly is a stunning reference in the metal. Then the price difference between the two watches set in and I thought that if I’m going to spend that much money why not get a DD and a less expensive Daytona like the 116508 green bezel which I’m quite fond of as well. The later Daytona could be ordered but will likely take 6-12 months to get in. Hmmm maybe that would be better for bank account anyway

Day date, but I prefer a white dial Roman numerals but I asked my AD for a DD40 on July 15, and ninth incoming yet , so hard to get now too?... Daytona I prefer all gold rose or yellow. I have a rose and so far my favorite?
