New Sub from AD with no past purchases
Hey everybody, anyone know if it would be possible at all to get in a waiting list for the new steel Sub date (black bezel)? I have no prior business with any AD's, and this will be my first Rolex. I know there will be a wait, but I know with watches like the Pepsi and Daytona it is hard to even get on a list.
I am fine with waiting up to a year. |

Never know unless you ask. There will be a large influx of guys wanting to get the new model, but it should taper off. I would go in to a couple of ADs, strike top some conversation, and then tell them how interested you are in the new Sub. You never know what may happen...

Call your local ADs and find out. Happy hunting.

Should be fine. I don’t see many big VIP’s going after the regular black. Maybe a few seeking no dates, but that’s about it at least for collectors I know.

I think it’s definitely possible. After all it’s “just” the black sub. I’m sure you’ll eventually get one in a relatively reasonable timeframe for someone who doesn’t have any purchase history.

Call your local ADs, tell them you live nearby, be nice on the phone, hope for the best, be prepared for the worst.
If you don't try you'll never get one from an AD. Last week I saw a potential buyer with no purchase history being taken name and number for a Sub ND at the AD. |

I don't necessarily support the current watch-buying dynamics at play, but going in and having a real conversation, showing that you're an enthusiast, etc will work better than a cold call.

There is a little hype now but I don’t think it will last. IMO the ADs will offer the first batches to their loyal customers then things trickle down to normal. Note that normal for 2020 was different for 2019 and 2018. But dating back to then it was not laughable for first time buyer to get a sub.
IMO no true watch collector/enthusiast will be holding out for a bundle deal; they already have or have been offered subs in the past. ADs know this and know that they can’t use a sub like a gmt/Daytona as a reward piece. Good luck! |

Especially if you are after the 124060 .. That one is traditionally less popular than a date version, let alone green bezel .. Also, there's quite a few gents out there who now thinks Sub is ruined with 41 mm and wide bracelet ..
Should be easier to get one than the 114060 |

Knock knock some doors. I fully agree with the Ruffa’s input. Make your appointment, have a nice talk with your local AD or ADs and let them know this is your first Rolex and that you’ve been waiting for this moment for quite some time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

agreed, in person is the way to go. I recently purchased my first (114060) with local AD and made it a point to stop in every 2-3 weeks just to talk watches and affirm my interest with salesrep. Local AD is in my town so that made it a lot easier.
I think the day after the 2020's were announced i got the call and picked up a few days after that... |

I wouldn't phrase it like that. I would introduce myself and ask politely if it would be at all possible to see and try one of the models recently announced. When asked which one, just say the model. Don't send the message you're desperate to buy one. Instead give the impression you just want to see it. After all you might very well dislike it in the flesh. Personally I wouldn't waste time and energy walking in. Although I did see someone doing it and they took his details. |

Sure, eventually. This is going to be a relatively mass produced watch, for the next decade or so.

I was told by my 2 ADs that all SS submariners will only be sold to existing customers. I have a great relationship with one of my ADs and talk to my SA a few times a week. So I would assume you would need to buy a DJ or OP41 first to get in the system first.
Good luck with your hunt. Every AD might be a little different but this seems to be the model moving forward. Maybe try for a 2 tone submariner. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I think it really depends on where you are in the world. If you're in a major metropolitan area then your chances are low, if not then I'd say your chances of getting one within the next year or two are good. I'd try to find an AD with multiple stores (some even have boutiques), they typically get more supply than other standalone small ADs. I've had very good luck in ruralish midwest and found a really great AD- managed to get a sub and batman within a year.

Eventually, you should be able to get the watch. But, it was very hard to get the previous model in the last year or so without an AD relationship. So the new one will be even harder, at least for a while.

Go in person. Talk to the owner. Make a friend. Tell them you are a TRF member. You have carefully researched which Rolex to buy. Tell them you want to build a long lasting relationship and that you avoid greys at all cost. Buy some jewelry as well, combo it with with the watch purchase if you can.

You may need to be an existing client. However no harm in giving it a go.

Physically go to the AD and go through the relationship motions. If you have a milestone coming up that doesn’t hurt to add when discussing your first Rolex purchase.
