My birth year 16610 - whats up with the dial?
I recently acquired a beautiful date year 16610. It has aged gracefully over the years and has some lovely patina to show.
I noticed that under the right light, and by really staring at the dial - there are some strange oddities. Small black spots, some swirly marks under the hour hand...any ideas what these are? Should I be worried? |

Sounds like the old tropical sandstorm dial. Those babies are rare.

Here's the picture this time attached, had to crop and resize.
Notice this black spots around the dial e.g. by the 5 hour, 10 hour and in the center. I can't tell if those are caused by natural aging, or is it water damage or oil drops? |

It looks like oil on the dial.

Nice dail with tritium yellowish.
Do you know its recent service history? This to determine beforehand the possibility of being extra lube. If it's oil there's a chance it might clean up, but take it to a good indy, don't risk waisting that gorgeous dial. |
