Question about "lists" and allocation...
I was fortunate to get a call for a JC over the weekend and this was my first purchase ever at this store. I've been there a few times (first time was maybe 5 years ago) and put my name for a few pieces but have never purchased. My original SA (since left) called me 3 years ago for the SD43 but had to pass due to no funds Visited again earlier this year and reestablished contact with a new SA. Just added the JC to my wish list a few months ago.
Sorry if this has been asked before but I'm just curious, do SAs have the authority to allocate the watches or is there someone behind the curtains so to speak, that dictates who gets what? I'm thinking a mix of both with bias towards the latter. Can someone corroborate? BTW, yes, this time I was ready and jumped all over the JC. Waiting for delivery today hence the random thoughts and questions in my head as I anticipate the FedEx truck lol

As far as I know the SA lobbies the manage and or owner for your case to get the watch. if they prevail you win.

Congrats on your JC.
Each AD has their own process on how they give out the “hot” pieces. Like for some places, the SA submits your name and management decides based on your purchase history if they deem you worthy of blessing you with a hot piece. It’s best you continue to build your relationship with your SA and ask them how the process works. |

At my AD, SA's each get their turn getting their "allocation". A selection of watches they've requested or have been tasked with by their manager/owner to sell. This includes pieces they have been promising to their network of clients.
At smaller AD's, I've been told management makes all the decisions on how allocated pieces get distributed. |

The sa has a lot to say and he is your cheerleader, and it depends where he/she is themselves is within the AD hierarchy, there are other associates who are cheerleading for their client, and I'm sure that each also takes turns in making someone happy, but the hammer drops with the manager.
In an AD that is as big as the one in Dubai or London...I'm sure the criteria is different. |

congrats Jay on the JC..good to see you here...depending on the size of AD..the allocation can be decided on by local manager or the store owner or your SA...

My AD does keep lists for allocation models. There is a master list then as each piece comes in it is rotated amongst the SA’s. Getting on that list is the hard part and the SA’s have that power based on criteria from the manager.

As ridiculous as it sounds, my experience has been the store manager has complete say in who gets what. The SA has to ask permission to sell something.

Thanks guys
I think with smaller ADs, the owner/GM has the go/no go authority. Same with bigger ADs but SA may have more input.

Depends on AD. One of mine in particular, the sales person and manager don’t decide on sports pieces (subs, explorer II, GMT, SD43, Sky, everything we all want) it ALL goes thru the owner. He decides, he looks at how much jewelry you bought, non Rolex watches purchased, or if u will pay more than msrp. Sucks bad. Lists there mean NOTHING. Lists there are interest only and if u are #1 or #2, don’t count on getting a call unless owner feels like giving u something.
It wasn’t always like this. But now the owner sees first hand how much stuff sells for on grey and wants a piece of the pie. |

So, if they tell you you’re on the list for a piece, like a Daytona, they actually honor it? Some super whale doesn’t get to come in and sweep the safe every time he feels like it? The Boutique in Houston has some serious money walking around it. I don’t think they’d even let me in the door! |
