Might be the nicest 18K Rolex 6265 Big Red...

Thanks to this forum, I received a call from the owner of this watch and he explained that his father previously owned the watch as it was a gift from his partner/boss. Per his father, (original owner) he wore the watch around 6 times +/-. Due to how "busy" it looked, he was not the biggest fan and stored it away for many years.

His son, who recalls his father wearing this Daytona as a child recently inherited this fine piece, not to mention, it is a complete set.

IMO, this is one of the nicest pieces I have personally serviced and the condition of the case and bracelet is breath taking.

On a side note as many will see, the dial and hands would not have come with this particular case. I am waiting to hear more from the original owner.

Just insanely beautiful. Never seen a gold 6265 with a dial like that. I thought the gold ones all had chronometer-signed dials, but who knows. Are the hands steel?

Thanks for sharing.

Just Wow. What an heirloom.

Was it normal for a gold daytona to come with dial and hands for SS model? I, personally, like the contrast but haven’t spent enough time looking at them in detail to notice it.

That dial wasn’t born in that case. Still a nice watch.

Possible dial was swapped already in the store if the owner asked for it. Or it was done later. Rolex would not put a white metal dial in a gold watch imho. And as already mentioned late gold Daytonas would be COSC versions. I do like the contrast though.

I agree and wondered if it was replaced by the 1st service...I am waiting on more answers from the owner. But, I do think it looks kind of cool.

Correct ones look like this. Very rare configuration only made for a brief period around 1980. Pic cred timexchange.com

What an amazing piece. Never saw a gold Daytona like this. Probably the best gold vintage I’ve seen

Unfortunately, I got the story slightly wrong.

The father who received this watch started the company Rent-A-Center. Back in the 80's, he ordered a lot of items from Thomas and Thomas and it was said that once you reach a certain purchase history with Thomas and Thomas, the owner would gift you a gold watch. In this situation, he received this 6265. From what the father said, the watch was gifted to him as-is and the watch has not seen anyone during his ownership.

Stunning.
Re the dial and hands, as has been mentioned in another post concerning an 1803, perhaps as these were not big sellers at the time, might the dial have been swapped to something more to the customer’s liking?
