Would You?

Would you send in your PAM to be serviced if it were still under warranty and running ~5 seconds slow each day?

No, it's within COSC and sending it off may result in it being returned as is, they will test it before stripping it down so you could end up losing the watch for a couple of months with no work done on it!

I take it you're worried about something here, what watch is it and what's the problem you're worried about?

Is it near the end of your warranty period? If so, I'd say YES. You'll get a free service basically! If you still have time on it, I'd wait until you are closer to your ending of warranty.

It is technically out of COSC specs. -4 +6. He is at -5

Yes.My 104 was -40s/day when I got it Vendome regulated and now its "scary" accurate !!

What you can do is to leave it face down overnight. That usually is the position that gains the most time .Who knows, maybe it's then 100%.Worth a try !!

Ah, for some reason i thought that said +5, i guess it's a gamble to take if you want too, but it will be up to Panerai whether they do anything, although it's outwith COSC, the actual COSC certificate and testing is only to validate the watch at that moment in time, it isn't a guarantee to state it will stay within COSC for 2 years.

Either have the AD attempt to regulate it or send it in but I wouldn't leave it loosing 5 seconds a day is pretty bad.

It's a 190 and I have about 6-months left on the warranty. I wound it to the full 8-days and just checked it against an atomic clock after 4 days. The total it was off was 20-seconds during that 4-day period.

Sounds like it's basically up to me with the responses I'm getting. Hard to part with this baby though....even for a few months.

No. I don't really care about that. I think -3 is within the tolerance too.

I would do the following...

Leave it in various positions over night and check it.
one night face down, one night up
one night crown up, one night down.
See the time

If it is off, send it in and wear the Rolex for a couple months.

This is a $10K watch and it should act like it.

Does the 190 having a hacking movement (just curious).

I have a 177 which is COSC but without a hacking movement. Accordingly, it is virtually impossible to determine how many seconds per day it is gaining or loosing

I'm pretty sure the 190 has the hacking feature, as stated above it's worth putting in other positions to try and bring it back towards zero.

If you do have other watches that you can wear then i guess there's nothing to lose by sending it off, at worst it comes back as is, at best it gets a full service and valet for free

I just get a bit worried about sending things off that are borderline, because a mate had his sent back untouched as it was still within their tolerances, which was a bit of a joke, 3 months it was gone for and it came back in exactly the same packaging and looked like they'd not even touched it

Thanks everyone! I am going to try putting it in different positions and see what happens. Also, I think it's a good idea to fully wind it and see if that affects things at all.

BTW- Yes, the 190 has the hacking feature.

Have a look in supplied COSC certificate and you'll learn something new, as how fast/slow it runs in different positions.

IF you want to address this issue...I would suggest a weekend in Carmel. While you're there, have Hugues at www.chatelco.com regulate it. His service is superb.

Sure thing, Bryan. Hugues was a watchmaker for years before opening his store.

Plus, you get a wonderful weekend trip at the same time.
