as a younger person who just got his first career job, i’m buying SPY ETF all day long. don’t have the huge cash cushion at this stage in life to take the dip into individual stocks until i’m in middle of my career.

That’s a great plan for a young investor. Get in young and watch it grow. Having a long time horizon is a great feeling. The biggest tool in your toolbox is time.

If you're thinking that way take a look at VFIAX as well.

Excellent. I wish I had these thoughts when I first started my career, but at that time I was lucky to pay rent... investing didn't even register in my mind at that time.

Yes - as we've discussed, I do think we've seen somewhat of a top and it will take more than what we're seeing now to break through it (e.g. actual stimulus, a true vaccine, movement past this election, etc.).

While there have been some breakouts in earnings, I don't think they'll be enough to lift the greater market once earnings season is over unless something bigger changes.

Back in CRM, AAPL and TDOC.

I'm now in 15 positions - the high from earlier in the year of around 25 or so, with a low of 8. Spreading funds a bit wider to manage risk better. Sitting at about 15% cash after trimming, as I want to have more cash on the ready for some of these earnings calls.

I have been researching a fund to get into for long term DCA (20-30 years) and wondered what the opinions are on VFIAX, VOO, (same but VFIAX is better for fixed amounts vs # of stocks for recurring buys), QQQ, DIA, VTI?

I like VFIAX for the simplicity, lower net expense ratio and the slightly higher dividend yield compared to some of the others out there.

I invest a fixed amount into VFIAX on a weekly basis (every Tuesday) and then also roll any of my more speculative gains into it as well.

just hedge with vix for protection.

i would highly consider selling out big gains and offsetting losses if you can. if the tax law changes its going to 39.6% on long term capital gains versus 23.8%. big big swing. capital gains rates are never going lower probably....

Support being taken out everywhere, people are counting on a Fed rate cut which will do nothing to help. VIX closing at 37.48, I am looking for 38+ to signal a panic sell. I got some MGM and a ton of DIS too. Anyway, I wish I can trade all the BS stock for some more SPY and VOO and just really not look at it anymore. At least I got in at the bottom. I’m not complaining. Although that slight half point drop the first day made me learn really fast what trading is about.

My core holding is VOO, been looking to add QQQ/VGT. VFIAX is another great option.

Roughly 25% of my IRA is VFAIX. And I no longer contribute to it. Another 65% is VWILX and VIGAX. The rest is split into VSGAX and little sliver goes into pretty much a savings account. Advisor said at my age, there was no need to be conservative, and recommended VIGAX.

Long story short - don't be afraid to invest in big tech with all of the looming antitrust issues. A breakup might even be more beneficial than anything for investors (though this is very unlikely, IMO).

TRBCX and FBGRX are good growth fund options.

I think if you’re 100% into a VFAIX, that’s too conservative for me as a late-30’s. But I think that getting started, getting it into anything stable is alright. At least until one learns about the other options.

But yes, I’d recommend a more aggressive portfolio for someone in their 20’s. Without knowing anything about their financial situation.
