Second hand buyer question
Hello All,
I am wondering if there is a database that legit grey dealers use to filter purchasing lost, stolen, or fake serials that go around the market. The reason I am mainly asking , is I own older Rolex's and never had them serviced as I've only owned them for a short time. I had them authenticated but never took more than 10 mins. My preferred method would be to use my local AD where I have a great relationship and they have an in-house Rolex certified watchmaker for shorter turnaround times. I have read crazy stories of watches being withheld due to them being reported lost or stolen. My question is, how do legit companies distinguish whether someone is sincerely selling or going for a quick buck? I understand this is loaded but after reading where and who I should send my watch to for servicing these stories have come up. Thanks in advance. Also If there is a watchmaker on TRF that is immaculate please feel free to recommend him/her thanks! |

There is a database of watches that have been reported stolen. I’m not sure if it’s public but I would imagine with the serial Rolex could tell you. I know if they recover one during a service they will confiscate it. I’d guarantee that 99% of watches sold on the secondary market are not cross referenced against any such list.

I know my grey doesn’t. But he did tell me a story that someone bought a sub from him, bezel popped off and sent it in for service at RSC. Turned up stolen. He gave the guy a 100% refund. Now he contacted the person who he bought it from who is doing the same etc etc

If you sell a watch to some sellers you have to ID yourself.
Would be very stupid to sell knowingly a stolen watch to a legitimate business. ![]()
