14060m 2 Questions Please

Hello All!
I am not very knowledgeable and am looking for advice please. Have a 14060m. Z serial. 4 line. I purchased from a reputable seller on this forum in April 2010. Card was dated as sold originally in December of 2009. All paperwork, booklets, boxes (both sleeve & inside), bezel protector...all came with it. Been a great watch! Runs a little fast is all. It is a daily wear. I bought it as a retirement present to myself! (-: I am careful with it and keep it washed & clean. It is a daily, so normal "desk rider" type wear. Bottom line is I need to have it serviced simply due to owning 10 years. Running fine, but time to service.

1. Should I have service done ONLY at a Rolex authorized service center, or reputable jeweler for $500 vs $1,000? I live near Nashville, TN. Both available.

2. This is a well cared for watch, but a small scuff on the bezel (not dented) and a small scratch on the face of crystal. Both you really have to look for by turning the watch at an angle in the light. The band & case reflect 10 years of daily wear. No really bad places, but normal scratches & scuff marks. When I take it in for servicing, should I have the bezel & crystal replaced? Should I have the case and band refinished like they do with a normal servicing?
Thanks in advance for the help!!
Dan

I’d recommend servicing through Rolex Service Center (RSC) and not refinishing. You’ll just put the same scratches on it as your daily wear post service.

RSC's are known to have issues with careless handling, resulting in added scratches.
(We see complaints regularly about this both here and over at WUS.)

On occasion RSC's will slip up and not follow the owner's instructions, resulting in replacement of parts to "bring the watch back to new." On valuable old watches, this destroys the historical value and appearance (patina) of older models.

But with an RSC you will get a service card returned, which is valuable "if" you later sell it. The buyer will be assured that the watch did indeed receive service, and where and when.

My SOP is I will only allow a certified CW21 Watchmaker handle and service my watches.
But that is just me. When I had my 14060M from year 2010 overhauled for the first time last January, a CW21 did it.

It was left "as is"as I had requested, with just a the movement cleaning, re-lube, re-timing, and new seals all around. No replaced hands, dial, case or bracelet polish, etc.

P.S. Welcome to the forum.

Let the only "history" on your watch be "your own" scratches and other normal wear.

I have the same 14060M, it certainly is a great watch.
If it were mine I would go the RSC route for the service.
As far as replacing the parts and polishing, I guess it is a personal choice as to whether you wish to retain the original appearance or have the watch returned looking like new.
If it were mine, I would keep it as original provided I was not bothered by the small defects.
Good luck.

I also have a 14060M as well as a 2005 Gmt that have never been serviced. Maybe I've been hearing too many horror stories about RSC service from the forum, I'm sure overall their excellent and hear many great stories too, mostly about Dallas. I'd still be aware and would also consider an independent. Not bashing RSC but I'm not feeling 100% comfortable knowing it will be me soon for my Gmt.
