Talk me out of this (London 2012 Seamaster)?
Should probably post this on the Omega Forum, but curious if anyone here has thoughts or relevant experiences.
Having secured my Sub Date, I'm thinking about the next thing (of course), and a piece that would complement the black-dial, black-bezel, stainless-braceleted Sub and maybe look a little dressier but still jeans-wearable. The one watch that I keep coming back to the past few years but haven't moved on is the London 2012 Seamaster. I much prefer the cleaner dial and slightly bigger (39mm) proportions of this one to the other (38mm) 1948-tribute SMs, plus (not that it matters much) there's a birth-year connection with my son. I've never actually held one of these, but I'm betting they have a decent heft to them with the gold medallion on the back. Naturally, I'd have to buy used, so I'd be sourcing one with a full kit. They occasionally pop up at Joma and Millenary, but at the moment they seem hard to come by, and whereas I've seen them in the 4's from time to time, they appear to be more consistent now closer to 6K. (There's one floating around for a bit less at Chrono24 and eBay--same watch--that I have some doubts about...) Simple clean elegance---vintage look, modern tech. Here's one I've got my eye on: https://www.chrono24.com/omega/seama...id15387900.htm And of course I'll include a pic (not mine). Any opinions on this one?---any reason not to do it? (Problems with the movement?) Feel like I could use a little perspective here. |

That's a good look, always like to see what I call a Breguet blue hand(s) on a dressier looking watch. Thumbs up from me on that one.

Nice watch. Go for it. If it needs a service or other sorting out Omega will handle.

I love those ones too---but (it's such a silly minor detail), I just don't like the little tick marks along the inner circumference of the dial. The London model is that tiny wee bit cleaner. There is the small seconds version, but then the price is consistently higher than the London one, and it doesn't have the birth-year connection.

Reviving this thread---if folks are game---in order to add a point of comparison. A JLC that has some aesthetic similarities: general proportions, clean dial, even the gold caseback. This one does have the date feature, though. Price could be significantly lower than the Omega---to the tune of $1500 less.
Thoughts? Is this more apples/oranges than I might think? I've never owned a JLC. This is the Master Control Q1408420. |

51/49 seamaster for me...not sure I love the yellow pups on the jlc, but it’s pretty much a toss up.

The Omega, and I have great respect for the JLC MC line. I love the hands, small seconds with blued hand, and minute track on the Omega. Great size too.

Omega looks cleaner to me. Love the seconds subdial. However one has the date and the other does not. How important is a date function to you? If not at all go with the Omega in my opinion. Just looks better.

I actually prefer not to have the date function---but it's not a huge concern.

if you don't already have the Omega, can't see why that would be :), then i'd probably say go for both.
