Anyone have similar problem with DJ?
I have a 1999 16200, and although it keeps perfect time when wound, and is good for 2 days or so, the auto wind does not work either while wearing, or in a winder.
It's due for service anyway, since I purchased from original owner, who stated its been 10 or more years since service. Just wondering if this occurs often, or it's indicative of other issues. Thanks |

It's not unusual for the auto-wind gears (reverser module) to stick or dry out. Sometimes the rotor can become disconnected from the winding gear too, or a broken jewel bushing can keep the axle from turning.
In the early days some watchmakers would just take out the auto-wind rotor if it had problems, and turn the watch into a manual wind version. I guess they figured that those new-fangled self-winding watches were just a fad that would go away.

Thanks for the reply. I'm sure it will be sorted during the service.
I appreciate the explanation! |
