I had an issue Hamilton but usually wore a Casio and later a Casio G-Shock. I bought a Sub later but rarely wore it. I know my son was issued a Marathon GSR but they never wore them and he used a G-Shock

As a military contractor I used a sub 14060 for eight years, but if I had the choice now, I would probably go with a Tudor Pelagos.

Solar powered Casio G-Shock hands down. If they had made the G's that they have today I would probably never have bought a Rolex back in the 70's when I was a Commercial Diver. Sorry to say but it is true.

I wore an Omega Flightmaster all the years I was flying. Depending on the work, I probably would ware a GMT today and that's what I would suggest. Thanks for your service.

This was known as the Rambo watch back in the day, I guess it was in one of the early Rambo movies?! It’s a Chronosport UDT manufactured by Breitling for the military.

Military movies could be a separate thread but I imagine the movies feature certain watches for role accuracy. In one scene from Top Gun of Tom Cruise’s hand on a lever in the cockpit of his fighter jet, it shows what looks like a Submariner on his wrist one second and then what looks like this Porsche Design chronograph.

In my opinion it would be an EXP II 16570 with lug holes on a nato strap for added security.

Here’s mine : )

Not that tricky...got mine direct from Casio website...it’s a great watch, highly recommended.

I spent 29 years on active duty and had 7 deployments in my time. I went back through deployment photos and I was usually wearing a Seiko SKX 173, Casio G Shock, or Suunto Core. On parachute operations or demolitions missions I wore the G Shock it can take anything you throw at it and if it breaks you can replace it for less than $100. My last few years I worked in an office staff setting and I wore a Rolex GMT 16710BLRO. Like others have said there is no one perfect watch for every occasion and especially not in the military. Wear the watch that matches the activity.

OK they look fairly nice, but I don't see haw they compare to G-Shock.They do not have any instrumentation besides time and they aren't solar powered. They look a lot like Marathon watches.

This watch was also branded with Heuer and Scubapro, I am not sure if Breitling was the actual manufacturer but they were readily available to anyone that wanted to buy one, not just a milspec item. I remember considering buying one in the early 1970's.

Prince Harry wore a polar Explorer in the Army, as well as a CWC and a pulsar. When I was in London having breakfast in a hotel, the guy at the next table was finishing up his breakfast and working on his phone. A young man greeted him at his table and addressed him as Sir. I assume that the young guy was the aid to the officer.

To his credit the officer asked the guy if he’s had breakfast and to have some if not.

The officer wore a Datejust and the young man wore G-shock.

I like to fantasise that both men were from Hereford and visiting London for a brief.

My 4 years' USAF active duty tour was in the early sixties, and I wore a manual wind Breitling Navitimer. For the past several decades I've worn Rolex GMT-Masters, first a 1675 and now a 16710. I'm not a big fan of watches that require batteries, although I do have a couple (Zodiac GMT and Swiss Military GMT).

Smart watches that require recharging? No, thank you.

Definitely depends on the occupation and location. My first deployment to OEF 09-10 I wore a G-Shock. On my second deployment OEF 12-13, I wore a Suunto Core which surprisingly held up better than the G-Shock. Both deployments were mission heavy and I wore those watches through hell. If I was stateside or in Germany I would sometimes wear a nice watch. The Admin Pogs could probably get away with wearing a gold presidential...
