Before I got my Sky-D I would have said eh not really but now I say absolutely!!!

I love my Sky-D and the way it looks, wears, feels, glimmers in the light, bezel turns, etc etc etc.

Did I get my point across lol

Doesn't a want become a need when it is all that matters?

I should state that when I created this topic I meant "need" loosely -- as in really want. It is a personal question, not a general one. Of course no one needs anything. No one needs watches! These aren't necessities. I am just asking what the community here thinks about Fluted Bezels as a collective.

To answer to the question, in your collection you need to get what you like.
To my taste DJ with fluted bezel is a great sporty elegant watch and DD with fluted bezel is a perfect sporty luxury watch. Depending upon material & dial color both can be used as casual everyday watch (i.e. DJ SS blue, black or white dial or DD WG blue, green or white dial).

I knew that’s what you meant. And what I meant is focus on what YOU want not want the group likes.

Personally I love the fluted bezel. To me it’s one of the Rolex calling cards and something that drew me into the lure of the brand.

"Need" may not be the word. I want one, and think it will be nice. As such, I'll ultimately buy a Sky Dweller in the next 3-4 months. "THAT is THE fluted bezel"...

I concur. If you love the fluted bezel then go for it! Maybe try something subtle like this?

Of course, if I let outside opinions affect me I wouldn't have sold my DJ yet. Community opinion is just always interesting to me.

I completely disagree. I wear my DD40 with shorts or jeans all the time. I even wear it hunting. It dresses down very easily.

Don’t add any watch to y r collection that you don’t have a deep connection with. If it happens to be a fluted bezel or not, who cares. Your lifestyle and your personal taste should determine the content of your collection. Your taste will change over time and so will your collection.

I figure it’ll be my only jubilee but as I’m on the list for a Sub and Sky Dweller, I’ll have 2 fluted bezels.
I'm usually "no" on bezels, but this is nice.

Well, I'm biased but I love the fluted bezel. Just picked this beauty up a few weeks ago and it's already my favorite. I mostly wear it with jeans and a t shirt and it looks fantastic

If choosing between fluted or smooth, I would always go for fluted.

I have two - Sky D and DJ2.

Funnily enough, Abraham Maslow wore a Longines:
