First Rolex - remote purchase gel/advice!
Hi all,
Would love some help and advice as I’ve been saving up for my first Rolex, I’ve found the watch I want and I’ve checked the Rolex site and they have confirmed that the store is indeed a ‘verified dealer’’. They have the watch in - problem is they are in a different country! I’m planning to travel their anyway but the store are asking for full payment upfront, paperwork will be done by email etc and no refunds - (apparently normal for Rolex according to the store) I asked if I could put a holding deposit on it but they said no. Just wanted your thoughts on this and if anyone has heard of this type of things before? It seems like a lot of money to part with without actually seeing it.... but these are in short supply! Thanks for any advice! |

Welcome to the forum
If you want the watch, then this is what you will have to do. If you are not comfortable then try to find another dealer with the watch you want

I’d be a bit wary here. Full money upfront, and you could travel to the country (in the middle of a pandemic) for a watch, and dealer, that may not even exist.
Good advice always on here has been buy the seller before the watch. Good luck. 👍🏻 |

ask the "verified dealer" to write an email to you to acknowledge the arrangement in black n white. full payment upfront is a bit unusual in the U.K but not so much in other part of the world I assume.
which model are you looking to purchase btw? |

May I ask what model you're looking for and what country the dealer is in?

Thanks all the dealer is in the Caribbean and I’m heading that way anyway - will definitely ask them to email me with the details first! Looking to get the date just 41mm

Where in the Caribbean? I bought my first Rolex at Jae's in Turks, they were great to work with and though I've only had one transaction with them I think they are trustworthy.

Hi all , thanks again for the help and advice - the dealer is in St Lucia and I’ve checked with Rolex directly and they are authorised - spoke to them again yesterday and they explained that they do this type of transaction for international customers every day

Is the DJ41 that hard to find? Asked my dealer about it and she had it in 2 weeks.

It's your call. Would you do this with any other purchase if equal value. I personally am never desperate enough for a watch to take that risk. Nor would I buy off a far away shop without a lot of paperwork and references, But it might pay off. However it isn't a particularly hard to find watch. It's a datejust!
Good luck. I normally use a holiday as an excuse to visit those ADs! |
