Don't kick yourself around on this. Life is a learning experience and I think you are committed to this deal at this point. I would give the AD a call and try to get a more solid estimate of arrival from them.

This is exactly why I wish more first time buyers would come to this forum before they make a purchase. If I were told I could only get a store credit instead of a full refund on a purchase of this amount I would have run like a cut duck. They have you by the nads now, they may be legit, but in the unfortunate case they weren't, you could be waiting long time with your money in their pockets. I can't imagine Rolex would like to hear an AD using this business practice. Just feels wrong.

I'm just afraid that if this goes into the next year and Rolex has a price increase that I'll have to pay the difference.
I wouldn't hesitate to give them a call and start following up with them. Having a word face to face would probably be better. There's nothing wrong with inquiring about the status of your watch after having paid up in full. Put them under the gun and let them come up with an explanation as to why it's taking so long. You don't need to be rude or to imply any wrong doing. You are just an eager customer waiting to get his watch.

My AD in Canada quoted weekly shipments before. Although my AD in the Caribbean quoted every few weeks.... so it really depends on AD.

Whichever way you look at it you put down a lot of $$$$$ for a watch you still haven't received after 4 months! Quite frankly the AD has no idea when he'll be getting a YachtMaster (or any other Rolex) that he may or may not sell to you, and taking a full deposit is quite disgraceful. I obviously don't know all the details of your transaction with this AD (was anything written down?), but I would move heaven and earth to get my money back, every cent of it, and not be fobbed off by any excuses or fairy tales. This is not serious business practice, even in the insane Rolex world of today. And to hell with "destroying" a relationship with this AD...you don't have any "relationship" with them to ruin, at least not from their perspective. Don't delude yourself! There are plenty other ADs out there, and this one is playing silly buggers with you. Sorry to sound so harsh, but this sort of AD nonsense really has to stop, imo. It won't, I know, but it still really annoys me! Good luck!

I have to admit it's really strange taking even a deposit for a Rolex these days.

Its not the amount of shipments which matters, its what is in them. I hear shipments in the US have been weekly lately. Before the pandemic I think it was about twice a month.

I was just at my AD yesterday. It's been weekly shipments to them. However, they hadn't received anything since the week before Thanksgiving

Call them and ask if there is any news? Say it could be nice for christmas? It’s not like they are demons at the AD

To the OP’s original question, my Boutique AD generally gets bi-weekly shipments, smaller stores may get them less often.
That’s not entirely accurate. In order to carry Rolex
They absolutely need to conform to standards and practices set forth by the brand to be able to carry it.

Why the hell would you pay in advance? A deposit, yes, but full payment? If he goes belly up you're SOL.

Show me the rule that they cannot ask for deposits. The only US dealer rules I truly believe are they should not sell online, customers should be known by either being in store or previous customer, and selling above MSRP is frowned upon.
Deposits, bundling, tying, are just individual sales techniques.

I believe Rolex can pull your AD status for discounting too much. I know of one such AD that no longer carries the brand for too deep of discounts.

You're gonna hear all sorts of anecdotal evidence and opinions on this... do NOT stress out. Plenty of people have chosen to and may one day be forced to pay in full to own the watch they desire. Each case has a vastly different set of variables: Year/month/watch/market/dealer/SA/etc. etc.. You paid for the one you wanted? With a reputable dealer? Great, you're gonna get it :) What you did with your cash simply says that you wanted to purchase through an authorized dealer and that you were willing to wait and part with the MSRP for the watch you wanted. You've begun your relationship building with your SA for future watches. Nothing wrong with it.
Want piece of mind? Strike up a friendly conversation with your SA.

All the best!

If it were me I’d return to the AD and ask to speak to the manager about getting my money back. If they’re gonna sell you a watch let them get paid after you receive it. Otherwise, you’re just giving them your money for nothing. Who knows...maybe the manager can make something happen for you if he is faced with refunding your money.

Welp, it is what it is. OP, at this point would just sit back and wait and periodically inquire w your AD. From what I understand, things are done for 2020, so maybe expect February best case scenario. As long as your AD doesn’t go out of business, you’re fine. Good luck !

I have heard on good accord that Rolex plans on having six factories by 2023 (was going to be 2022 but this past year halted plans). This is two more than the alleged four currently in operation. Will be interesting what a production increase of 50% would ensue...more DJ and OP? more focus on Sub/GMT/Daytona? or maybe a mix of both...

Regardless of the validity...I would not bet on ADs receiving considerably more watches (enough to meet demand) anytime soon...

FWIW, my AD said they are receiving one final shipment this week and it’s the last of 2020. Only 18 watches in there and hoping mine might be included. Otherwise I too am looking forward to early 2021

OP 36 in silver / sunburst dial. Originally put deposit down for the same reference but with steel dial and when it was discontinued I switched to the most comparable from the 2020 models.

My AD has been communicative but said she had no idea if it would come by EOY. Sigh

Reputable, long-time ADs DO go belly-up. It's rare but it happens. Especially in this unstable economy, I'd really try to get my money back in full if the watch doesn't arrive very soon. A lot of people lost a lot of money back in 2008, when this well-known AD for Rolex, Omega, Lange, and many other brands (and with multiple store locations) abruptly locked the doors one night and vanished with their deposits.

An AD that I know in another state, who is fairly large, once mentioned that the get a YM about every month or so. Maybe a little less lately. One will be blue, next will be anthracite...

Don't feel like a sucker - in NYC, this is starting to become common practice with smaller ADs and some of the larger ones are asking for a deposit for some of the harder to get SS pieces. Odd that they would ask for full payment on a Yachtmaster, as it's typically readily available.

I would inquire with the AD on the expected delivery date. Seems odd that it would take 3 months to get.
