Icon5 World Timer Watches with Jerusalem on dial? Happy Hannukah

First off, Happy Hanukah to any of us on here also celebrating!

My question, what world timer watches have Jerusalem as a city on the dial?

Anyone have thoughts on this: Considering Jerusalem is such an important to city to three major religions, why don't you think watch companies have world time watches with Jerusalem on the dial?

I have seen that time zone slot (GMT +2) go to Cairo mainly, is Cairo the more important city vs Jerusalem for watch buyers or business people or some other reason?

Here is one example I found. A 'piece unique' Patek (not sure how many made, certainly not a production watch) with Jerusalem,

(sold for $70K 4 years ago if curious).

Anyone know of any others with Jerusalem? Any watches in regular production?

How many <cough> 'limited edition' </cough> WT variants did PP make so far? 10? 20? 30? Wonder if they have 8 or 10 more 'limited edition' WP watches at-the-ready. i look forward to PP's Iran and independent Taiwan edition.

I agree, certainly Jerusalem is a more important international City than Cairo. I think large watch manufacturers think putting Jerusalem on the dial of a world timer may be a political statement, and they just want to sell watches, not involve themselves into politics.

That being said, many large brands have done special editions and even small runs for special clients.

Girard Perregaux Has a nice world time watch with Jerusalem on the dial.

I wonder if some of the world city choices are simply due to space restrictions and the aesthetics of a shorter name.

Vacheron uses Athens
Lange Beruit
Omega Athens
Quite a few follow patek's lead and put Cairo.

Beruit is an interesting choice for Lange.

Such watches are mainly for travellers. Cairo is the largest city in the whole of Africa and the Middle East. Jerusalem doesn't even have a working international airport. Hence Cairo would be the more useful.

I believe you’ll find the information you’re looking for in the attached video of a Watchbox “Collector Conversation”. The relevant info begins at 6:58.

Maybe so. Though Egypt doesn't have a Patek AD in the whole country. Israel has one. Greece has two (and Athens didn't get that slot either).

Btw Ben Gurion Aiport serves Jerusalem. And sees more travelers annually than Cairo, as does Athens Airport (according to wikipedia anyway ;) ).

But no doubt Cairo is an important city. I visited Cairo myself a few years ago to see the Pyramids. But is Cairo more important than Jerusalem, Tel Aviv or Athens for a watch? I guess it depends how you want to measure it.

Dude, don’t get into this. Depending on the criteria, Cairo, Athens, Joburg and Jerusalem all hold a reasonable claim to GMT+2. By any standing other than religious significance, both Cairo and Athens as centres of two of the greatest historical civilisations, and in the case of Cairo, the most populous and significant Arabic city, both eclipse Jerusalem. As a Tel-Avivi, I’m biased and would love to see my beloved upstart on a dial, but even I can recognise this as a Rorschach test for an individual’s ethnic, historical and political perspective.

Chag sameach btw (if my assumption isn’t wrong)...

Whaaa. Getting into this kinda stuff is what the internet was made for. All in good fun.

Yes I agree, Jerusalem doesn’t have the same significance as those other GMT +2 cities outside of religious significance. But even if we just think of religious significance, maybe many Christians, Jews and Muslims would like to see Jerusalem on a dial? And that’s oh about 4 billion people who consider Jerusalem special.

Anyway I don’t even believe in world timer watches. And I don’t plan on buying one (regardless of the cities on the dial). Because of the different dates countries observe daylight savings, if they observe it all, not to mention countries do sometimes change their time zone policy (Russia just recently a few years ago) makes world time watch dials incorrect at points during the year as is and then inevitably permanently incorrect.

The point was just to try to start an interesting discussion and maybe learn something. Which I did. Hopefully others did too.

Chag Samauch achi.

If it makes you feel better it is an option you can add to the iPhone’s world clock.
