Older 1803 Day-date dials - 2 4 6 8 10 diamond

Is anyone familiar with these dials?

I've only spotted a few of them, most from early 60's. The diamond markers were smaller and very different from the regular Day-Date diamond versions.

No one seems to actually have a name for the variation.

Thanks.

I dont know if they have ever had a name other than just a diamond hour marker dial.

Interesting!

I think I’ve seen this type, but not every variety - both claw and baton markers among the diamonds, with either three or five diamonds, etc. I’d guess that the only reason these don’t have a specific name is because they are so uncommonly seen.

Beautidials! I have fond memories of these beauties. They would seldom land on my 'bench' They were mostly found on Caliber 1555 and the early Cal.1556. During the same era, Rolex (well dial manufacturers) made stunning engraved/embossed dial with beautiful patterns.

I see from another post that you are a retired RSC watchmaker.

It must have been tough for you when calibre 1555/6 was considered 'modern'

My champagne dial is actually a bit rare. Champagne pie pan dials are a dime a dozen, but the minute track on this one is a bit more rare (not to mention its condition from 1968). Most just have tick marks, no numerals. I saw it referenced as rare and didn't believe it until I started hunting online. Check it out.

That is correct sir. Cal. 1556 was "modern' compared to Cal. 1055 its predecessor, which was found in early daydate 6611 and the like.
