It's got a plexi crystal, so surely it's an early 5-digit reference. I found the listing and doesn't specify the first few numbers of the serial number. Personally I think the pricing on this one is optimistic and I'd look elsewhere.

Agree on an inspection/return period as part of the negotiations. This is pretty standard with vintage Rolex.

Good luck with the hunt! I was hunting a 16014 for quite some time and I def agree with the posters that say you are likely going to pay $5k+ for one in great condition. I got mine maybe 10 days ago....That’s just the market for them right now. I was somewhat of a novice to vintage, but I def know where to find watches and I really didn’t see anything in really good condition under $5k. Also agree with negotiating some good return policy terms-especially from what you are saying. Last comment-if it doesn’t feel 100 percent right - just be patient and wait because a better deal will probably come along. Send pics when you get one!

Well, it will probably be a while for the pictures, for I just grabbed a '69 pre-moon Speedy! Ha! I was going back and forth between the DJ and the Speedy, but I went with my gut and got the latter. For 5.7K, a 1969 DON Speedy in good condition was too good to pass up.

That said, I still do want to grab a DJ in the future. I am wondering if the Speedy is something that will go with every occasion, whereas I know the DJ can do so, as it is arguably the most versatile watch. The Speedy seller offers 30 day returns no questions asked, so lets see what happens...

You can still order from Omega an old-school 1171 bracelet for your watch. It's the best-looking vintage-style bracelet you can get if you don't have the original, IMHO.

Superb Speedmaster much appreciated. Even on TRF! Have to make allowances for icons whatever the brand .
