116613 Prices up over 16% in 8 months?
Good evening all!
I was considering buying 116613LB back in April. I found said watch from DavidSW, who I know is a very trusted seller here. The used watch (can't recall year) was $12,500, excellent condition, B&P (I'm sure everyone is familiar with the quality DavidSW sells). I was short, so I took my budget, bought Pepsi and Coke stock, and now I've made up my shortfall. Figured instead of spending my money to make the difference, why not let the stock market make it for me?! I digress. So I come back 8-9 months later, and see the listing price of these watches North of $14,500. Did these things really go up $2,000 in 8 months, during a global pandemic no less? Other models I liked seemed to have stayed stable, or at least not noticeably different. Is the increase specific to certain models? How/why does this make sense? Help me understand why I still can't afford this watch, haha! |

It’s true...I was looking and was close to picking one up at $12k. Now it’s above 14k. All stainless Rolex pretty much went up across the board.

Correct me if I’m wrong but my observation is that PM pieces appear to have risen a lot in absolute terms but less staggeringly in percentage terms compared to SS. I believe PM pieces are still reasonably priced given spot price of gold. |

Now they are close to $40k with the Olive and Choco dials over $40k for BNIB examples and have been this price for several months already. So thats around the timeline the Op is mentioning. Look at the prices of Rose Gold SkyD - $55k!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YIKES!! These were hovering around $35k for years and years. Thats a HUGE increase. |

The ss models have gotten way too inflated
PM watches became a better buy so sellers are increasing prices. |

Maybe people can’t get SS, then the two tone prices start looking ridiculously reasonable in comparison. Cheap as chips in fact.
Rolex is too cheap, can’t see prices going any other way. Especially anything that’s not pure precious metal, and even those seem headed the same way. Everybody seems to want a Rolex nowadays. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Now gold has taken off so you've missed the boat now - in saying that I still think the Rolex PM pieces are cheap compared to Patek/AP. I see all Rolex PM going above $50k as a minimum. Historically gold was around 3 x SS and has been for decades. If this balance is to be restored if we are having SS sell between $15-$20k, then Gold pieces should be around $45-$55k for all of them. |

A rising tide lifts all boats. This is why you hear many TRFers wishing/hoping/begging for Rolex to raise prices. When prices for new pieces go up, pre-owned follows their lead.
A new 126613 is $15,000 (with tax).... but there is perceived scarcity, so secondary resellers price it at $18,000. Used pieces which were $12,000 now jump up to $14,000. Where else can the consumer go? Nowhere! They either pay higher prices or choose another brand/reference. |

This is true. When SS prices start overlapping with Gold prices, demand for PM pieces go up. I am guilty of that. Sold my SS at a premium to get the watch I really wanted... Sky D WG. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
