1950s Oyster Perpetual Gold with Black Dial - Thoughts?
Im looking to purchase this 1950s Oyster Perpetual from a friend.
Asking $5k. I’ve never seen this gold and black color combo. Seems to be a 6085 but not sure. Would love to hear any thoughts you may have around current market pricing and rarity. Thanks! |

I have a 6075, which is from 1950. I think your dial may be refinished, is it also missing the bezel?
Anyway, 5k USD does not seem too bad a price, at least an ounce or so of gold in it.

Nice, the super oyster crown was a very short run, so I'm thinking 1950 + - 1 or 2 years maximum.
Edit, little bit of research, seems super oyster ran from 1950 - 3. Not a screw down crown, didn't work well, was discontinued.

I dont think the dial is refinished. It looks very consistent with late 50s hand printing.
Looks like a very nice piece with its original crown. The only negative that I can see are the missing lume plots but thats pretty common for the age.
