Tudor BB58 Incoming / Aftermarket Bracelet Options

Hey all!

Happy NYE, hope everyone has an enjoyable end to 2020 and start to 2021! My AD surprised me this afternoon by giving me the opportunity to pick up a Tudor BB58 (M73090N-001) with 0 wait. I have been torn between this and a 124060, but it would appear fate has made that decision a little easier.

Current plan is to pick up the Tudor on Saturday (and follow up with pics of course), does anyone have any feedback on aftermarket bracelet or strap options? I have found a number of threads reviewing the strapcode variants, which seem to be the top choice, but I'm unclear why the turning clasp variant seems to get better reviews than the more traditional v clasp? The faux rivets on the bracelet aren't my cup of tea, so the factory bracelet will be removed near immediately.

Also considering throwing it on a rubber strap. Can anyone speak to the comfort on the vanguard strap? I have 0 watches on rubber straps, I've always been preferential to bracelets but the vanguard seems like a high quality, low-maintenance option. Similarly these seem to get good reviews but I'm happy to hear additional feedback outside the threads I've found thus far!

Cheers!

Awesome watch, congrats!

I tried this model and the blue dial the other day at my AD. The size is perfect and very comfy on the wrist.

Congratulations! It will serve you well.

My wife wears hers on Chevron Natos from crown and buckle. She will switch between the Natos and the OEM bracelet.

She also uses a Milanese mesh bracelet if you want something in steel.

Congrats - this is an amazing watch. I purchased mine around thanksgiving and have not taken it off. I actually popped into my AD to look at different strap options as well. Let us know what alternative strap you end up getting.

Rubber B has straps for BB58. Black, Brown, Green, and Blue. I’m partial to the green.

Congrats on a great watch. Regarding vanguard rubber straps, i have the black bay 41mm eta and have had it on the vanguard for a few months. Has an extremely nice feeling to it, and huges the wrist very well. The tudor clasp fits great on the vanguard strap too. The bracelet is nice but I'm with you on those rivets, I cant stand looking at them but I always have to look at them.

Congrats!

I have the BB 58 Navy and love the watch, but am not a fan of the Tudor bracelet.

I cycle between three straps.

OEM "Soft Touch" Leather/Suede strap is gorgeous and very comfortable. It feels sacrilegious to wear a leather strap on a diver, but I put this strap on when I want to dress it up.

Crown and Buckle NATO (see post history for picture). Love this one, this is my daily wearer.

I also have the Blue Vanguard Rubber strap, it is my least favorite of the three, but I'll put it on if I am heading to the beach. It is very difficult to install/remove, but it does fit flush and seamless. I think the black rubber strap would look very good on the Black Bay 58 black, but the blue on blue just didn't do it for me.

Highly recommend Erika’s Original MN. It matches the OEM NATO fairly well and is extremely comfortable. I tried the C&B chevron and, while it is much closer to the OEM NATO, I found it a bit uncomfortable.

Here it is on a bunch of different options.

1) hodinkee suede
2) crown & buckle supreme nato
3) vanguard
4) hodinkee honey gold
5) OG bracelet

You might also consider getting a solid link Rolex bracelet from the 90’s. Crazy comfortable, and fits with the Tudor end links.

I put mine on one this summer, but didn’t take any photos. I don’t mind the Tudor bracelet, but if I did, that’s the option I would go with. Mine is on a bracelet most of the time.

Congrats on the new watch! What about the Tudor OEM fabric strap? I would love to have one for my BB58!

Thank you very much! I couldn't agree more, the 39mm case is very comfortable. Apart from my OP39, I have yet to try on a more comfortable watch.

Thank you! I hadn't thought of the milanese option, I have a phenomenato for my Speedmaster and I might put it on the BB58. I had a crown and buckle previously and it served me very well!

Thank you very much! I am looking forward to getting it in rotation, will definitely follow up once I get the bracelet swapped off.

Fully agreed, honestly the bracelet would be perfect if not for the rivets but I understand a lot of people like them too. The vanguard seems like a good option for high quality at a lower price point than the RubberB.

Thanks for the feedback! I think I'm leaning more towards a NATO now after seeing a lot of the pictures, it really adds to the vintage inspired appeal I think. I had heard that the vanguard can be a real pain to install/remove. I think I will need to invest in a nicer spring bar tool than the simple pick style option I have currently.

Had never heard of Erika's Original MN, need to do more research about those! Thanks for the tip!

A lot of good options in that list! Options 1 and 4 honestly look great, I hadn't thought to put it on a leather strap but I should give that more though. I considered trying to get a 93150 but given my estimation of the used prices (800-1200?) I balked a bit.

Thank you! I really like the OEM fabric strap honestly, I considered selling the factory bracelet and trying to do a swap+cash for the strap.

Now that's an option I had not heard of. Makes me wonder if this would work?

I understand not everyone likes the bracelet but unlike in pictures, on the wrist you don't see the rivets at all. The bracelet is overall very close to a 5-digit Rolex diver bracelet with SELs, both from an appearance and wearing standpoint.

And congrats on the BB58. I spent most of 2020 trying to source one, and it was everything I hoped for and then some.

I'd highly recommend Lunarwatchstraps new Appolo range of single pass.
Very soft and comfy and no excess clutter to worry about.

If you're looking for a leather strap, I highlyc recomment the Rome model by Italian company Colareb. The brown iteration is looking awesome with gild dials watches.

Excellent piece, congrats! That specific model is my favorite current Tudor. That gilt looks so good and agreed, the rivets aren't very noticeable in-person and I kinda like them. Saw the blue 58 in-person and passed on it; the color just wasn't very interesting to me. Enjoy your gilt!

Thanks guys! Alright so update time. I went to pick up the watch today and unfortunately I discovered the case already had a scratch on it. Thankfully I noticed the instant I picked it up, rather than after I left the store. The scratch was on the brushed surface of the lug at the ~55 minute mark.

At this stage I was torn about what to do. My AD offered to have it refinished in-house, providing that they have the capability to do all of their refinishing on-site. I had a similar experience buying a new car once where the dealer offered to fix a cosmetic blemish on-site and it was decidedly not the same as new.

Would you guys have any heartburn about letting them re-brush all 4 lugs? Should I be worried that the factory tolerances for the chamfers etc. will not be maintained? I doubt many people have had BB58 cases refinished given the model is only 2 years old, so I'd hate to be the guinea pig.

I ultimately bought the watch and they agreed to have it refinished, with a 2-3 week leadtime on the refinishing.

If the scratch is not too bad I would leave it as if you wear it regularly you are going to get some scratches on it anyway. I would expect the dealer to give you a discount which you could put towards its first service then polish if you want to in the future.
