If you were allocated a 5711/1A from an AD

should you be allowed to go on the waitlist for the successor model, assuming there will be one.

In my experience, if you get a nautilus in 2021. You likely will not get a subsequent nautilus for 2021 or maybe 2022

When you say allocated, you mean you took delivery?

What a dilemma to have. In view, why wait years for the new model when you can have this one now.

I don't quite understand your specific situation. But regardless, you just have to ask your AD. Only they will know what they will do or not do for you.

Sure, why not. I think there is a lot of fungibility with wait lists and ADs want to keep their best customers happy. That said, I do think that with such limited quantities of references like the 5711 (and potential successors) the good ADs work to spread them around a bit. I received a 5711 in 2019 and, if I ask for the new version, wouldn’t expect one for a year or two.

It does vary and also depends on your relationship. I don't think there is a rule per se. I have been allocated more than one nautilus in a year.

In my experience that’s what happens if there is an immediate replacement.

I had to wait for my nautilus between 4-5 years. I had to wait for my AP Royal Oak around 2 years, and i purchased both after a manufacturer price increase.
In my opinioin when you get allocated one of the hot pieces by our AD....just take it

If you were allocated a 5711 naturally speaking you would be automatically be placed on the replacement model (assuming the allocation means you were guaranteed a 5711 sometime soon). Most honest ADs would do this. Patek is likely updating the Nautilus not completely discontinuing the line so you should be "next in line" for whatever replaces it.

If they actually have the 5711 in hand for you but want to transfer it the newer model... it might be fair game for the AD to deny your request (since they are actually fulfilling their obligation). You are given an opportunity to get the 5711... I wouldn't pass on it. Not everything new is better. The 5711 is near perfection already.

Personally, if I had a chance to buy current 5711, I definitely would for two reasons:
1. I love the watch in it's current variation and would love to wear it.
2. I don't know what the replacement will be; Patek might never product another steel 5711 (or whatever the new reference might be). Just look at the steel 5980.
