I too would have chosen design, but I also voted craftsmanship, just because no matter how nice it looks, if runs like a piece of crap, it wouldn't be worth it.

Just because it’s a Rolex: beautiful, rugged, reliable and so easy to swap and trade.

My first thought was "looks," but after thinking for a moment, that's not it. A good looking watch with poor mechanics or shoddy build quality would not be on my list. If I had to pick one thing, it would be "design." Design determines looks, mechanical performance and reliability.

I live alone, WFH, and I rarely go out in this COVID era, yet I wear a watch all the time. It makes me happy. It makes me smile on those 12+ hour days.

I do really like simple things that do what they set out to do really well. My favorite place to eat has four menu items. They do these things exceptionally well. They could place more items on the menu, but they choose not to because the unique experience they provide comes from their specialization, and their specialization is what has built their reputation of being the best at what they do. The Sub is arguably a simple watch that follows a similar pattern.
Really nice point

If you had to sum up your choice into two words, how would you describe it?

What do you look for when choosing a brand/watch?

I choose a watch the same way I chose a wife; how does she look like in the shower

Thanks!

Two words is hard, but if I had to make it two, I would say "emotional connection". That kind of relates to heritage/story, although it also has to do with how my own story intersects with the watch and the story behind the brand's history. If such a connection didn't exist, then I couldn't justify the costs and the difficulties in acquiring such a watch.
