Hi TRFers,

I am digging into DateJust and didn’t found much more information about this particular model. A DateJust 1603 in steel with a wide boy dial but hands and indexes in solid gold.
I’ve found a lot with this kind of dial but on two tone DateJust only.

Any idea? Ressource?

Please let me know what do you think about that ?

Beautiful watch. Very nice dial, but unfortunately, the dial is wrong for your 1603. It belongs to a TT or yellow gold 1601 or a 1600 TT.

If you like the watch then it isnt a big deal, dials are plentiful for these models and doesnt effect its value much. I quite like it.

A nice WideBoy dial with matching hands has value. A nice 1603 has value. This isn't a big deal. The watch wasn't "born" with this dial or these hands, so it's not factory original, and having the wrong dial and hands doesn't make it a rarity, but if the price is right, it's a nice value. Of course, if you like the configuration, there's nothing wrong with that!

It’s routine to find these with replaced dials, bezels, bracelets. I agree that’s a very nice looking pie pan dial and the bracelet looks in good shape.

It’s all about whether you personally like it. And the price I suppose.

Hands and dial have value. Up to you if you change it. Many like this changes at the point of sale by ad

It is possible that it came like this from the AD, as I have seen many variations that were not on the Rolex catalog but indeed were original.

It could also have been changed along it's life, and there really isn't a way of saying what is what unless you know this particular's watch history, but yes, Rolex was way more flexible with their watches and AD's always made sure the client got what he wanted, so it's not "wrong" per se, if it's all period correct and original, since steel watches with gold dials and hands were common at the time.
