36 OP Blue 3-6-9 + 36 Exp I

I currently own a 36 OP with the blue 3-6-9 dial. Would it be redundant to add a 36 Exp I (either 114270 or the new 2021) to the collection?

My OP holds sentimental value being my wedding watch so it is something I will never let go. However, there’s something about the 36mm Exp I that interests me.

Appreciate the input!

Who could tell the difference? They are essentially the same watch.

I think they are close enough to be considered redundant by some.

Personally, I could tell the difference across the room.

I wrestled with a similar problem when I bought a DateJust 36mm, 116200 63600, after I bought my Explorer, 114270.

There was enough difference to make it valid in my mind.

My advice is that if the Explorer rings your bell enough, buy it.

Who cares if you have two similar watches and whose business is it anyway?

Look at how many people own multiple Rolex divers.

I own the same watch as you and I have always loved the 36mm Explorer 1. In my opinion, this is a much better watch than the previous Exp 1 because the movement is better, it has the nicer bracelet and clasp design, and my Lord the blue sunburst dial is so awesome to look at in the sunlight. Plus the 3, 6, and 9 are actually lumed!!

If you really want the best of both, a few members here have installed Explorer hands onto their blue Explorer dial OP 36. That's a really sweet look and you would literally have the perfect watch then.

Incidentally, my AD is hooking me up with an EZLink for mine. I bet if you were to buy the new 2021 Exp 1 it will come with that as standard.

Good luck!
