Ladies Rolex Datejust Perpetual
Can someone provide an estimated value for a watch that I purchased for my wife many years ago at Tiffany's. I don't remember the date but maybe 30 years ago. It has a gold bezel and 3 rows of gold on the band. It states Oyster Perpetual.
Tiffany is on the dial. She has no intention of selling it and hasn't worn it for decades and now is wearing it. Should we send it to Rolex for service? Thanks |

I tried to post a link withthe picture but received a message I dont have enoughposts to post a link. We purchased it decades ago from Tiffanys and it has been in our safe. When I took it to the Rolex store they said it should be sent to Rolex for service which could well be over $1000. It is in good condition and has a yellow gold bezel as well as 3 strand Jubilee band. I would appreciate any thoughts on the value and should I spend the money for Rolex service. I can email a picture if anyone desires it.
Thanks |

It doesn't matter what the value is, what matters is what the value to you is.
Sounds like a typical Two Tone Oyster Perpetual on a Jubilee bracelet, which is a work-horse, although not collectible, with many sold over the years. Any Rolex is "worth" getting properly serviced.

Would the Tiffany label have any effect on value? She plans on keeping it regardless of value but wondered if it was worth about $1000 or more to send it to Rolex for service.\Thanks

On this model not so much.
No added value if you don’t have the paperwork to prove it’s a tiffany dial.

Many here would tell you not to send your vintage watch to Rolex because they may replace parts and polish the watch, which affects the value.
If you want the watch serviced and restored to like-new, you can send it to Rolex or somewhere like Rolliworks or Phillip Ridley. If you just want the watched serviced for usability, use someone like the aforementioned or a reputable local watchmaker. A Datejust or Oyster Perpetual isn’t complicated but make sure that the watchmaker is comfortable and has experience working on a vintage Rolex. Finally, while i know you said otherwise, it sounds like maybe you’re thinking about selling but if not, you can certainly get an insurance appraisal. When I sent a watch to Rolliworks, they provided an appraisal free of charge. Finally, it sounds like your wife should bust out the watch and enjoy it more often! Get it appraised by a knowledgeable source and insured and wear it proudly! I look forward to seeing pics! |
