DJ 36 Questions/Advice for a Future Buyer
I'm considering a DJ as a more formal watch to compliment my daily watch (black date sub). I'm honing in on the DJ 36, fluted bezel, jubilee bracelet, and silver sunburst dial. Two questions:
1. I have a 6.75" wrist, and I plan on wearing this watch with dress shirts/suits and I think 36 is the right size here (not 41). The sub is a little large and my dress shirt cuffs often get caught on the sub, which is particularly annoying when wearing a suit/sportcoat. Anyone have a DJ 36 with a similar size wrist? Any recommendations? I would go try on the 36 and 41 to see for myself, except that isn't a reality in this market as there are none in-stock. 2. How hard is it to acquire the watch in question at retail price? My AD got my sub in about 6 months. I haven't asked him yet about this one, but I wanted to ask you guys, the experts, first haha. |

you shouldn't have any issues finding a dj 36 and 41 to try on. the one you want most likely won't be there, but they will more than likely have 1 of each in the case in some other config
for #2, can't imagine it would take more than a few months |

I think many AD’s can order the DJ in the configuration you want if they don’t have it.

My AD had zero men's watches to try on. And I live in Dallas, pretty big city. Zero men's watches to try on. They were however able to order the config I wanted (36 DJ Blue fluted jubilee) and it should take 3-4 months to arrive. There was one other customer with the exact same order from December and his arrived about 3 weeks ago. I've only been waiting about a month now.

I have your size wrists and own a 116200 - fits perfectly. The new dj36 126200 with revised movement and case however does wear smaller - more like a 34mm.
With the new case profile I think the 41 fits better than the 36, jmho. But you really can’t go wrong either way. Both are beautiful. |

If you are wearing a Submariner you will be able to wear the DJ41 very easily. You need to try them on and see how they work for you. As far as not fitting under the cuff of a shirt you need to buy your shirts so they fit a watch if that is what you want.

I have the same size wrist and currently wear an Explorer 39mm. I do want a Blue Roman DJ in the future and have tried on the 36 and 41. I came to the conclusion that although I would think occasionally that the 36 looked slightly too small I would on a far regular basis think the 41 looked way too large. Personally, I think It’s a classic watch and looks a bit better in the 36 size.

I'd definitely go 36. I have 7" wrists and find the 36 to be better for a more formal watch. I don't like leather bands, so my 36 fluted jubilee is the most formal watch I have. Can't stand a large watch snagging on my cuff.

Two practical pieces of advice (that may or may not be helpful):
1. Your profile says Chicago; go down to Wabash and find a grey dealer where you can try on. The try-on doesn't have to be at retail. 2. Move the button on your cuff out. You can probably get a half-inch extra space without it looking weird. Personally, I'd go 36, but I'm not a fan of "inflated" sized pieces. Lighter dials will also wear bigger. |

If the last generation is your point of reference, then yes. However, I'd say that the previous generation, with its fatter lugs, wore more like 37-38, while the current DJ is probably back to a classic 36 (like decades of DJs before).

Better solution is to just never wear a dress shirt or suit ;)
Seriously though, I wouldn’t buy a 36 without trying one on to make sure I liked it. Can’t believe finding DJs is hard, but guess that’s the state of things these days. Maybe find one at a reseller vs. an AD. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

For purely advice, I think the DJ is one of those things (assuming you will be a collector and not a two watch person who has the discipline to stay at two watches) where you go through the DJ phase but eventually move on. Once the Daytonas or AP's go into the mix, you rarely go back to the DJ. So if possible, I'd just skip the DJ all together.
To your direct question, should be easy to track down one from your AD if they can get sub in 6 months. |

I think too much attention is given to what AD's have available. I just purchased a 41 mm DJ and the store had a very nice DJ36 available. I tried both on and compared both sizes. I am not certain what size my wrist is but the 36 was very tight and so I went with the 41. Both are very good-looking watches, and my 41 came with a silver dial that I like very much. The 36 was blue and it also was beautiful. Try going to s Rolex store outside of a major urban area.

36 mm DJ is perfect size for your wrist. That combo of DJ should not be difficult to source. Best wishes

I was in the market for a DJ last year. Debated between 36 and 41...I have a 7 inch wrist. When I tried on the 36, initially it felt a little small...didn't help I wore a 43mm navitimer into the store, so a bit of an adjustment. Immediately though the 41 didn't feel right for what I was going for.
Fast forward to now... I have the 36mm DJ silver dial, fluted, with oyster bracelet. I adore it, I wear it more than my sport model watches. It's really comfortable and fits great. You can pretty much wear it in any situation. I think if someone wanted a DJ as sort of a "proxy" for a sport line watch I can see the 41 making sense. However, if you want something a little different than your sub (I also have a sub) and a bit more dressy - 36 is 100% the way to go. There was a good hodinkee "week on the wrist" video with the 36mm silver dial from a while ago...it does a nice job of featuring a similar watch to what you're looking for. I ordered it from my AD where I have a good relationship...and it took about 2.5 months. Hope that helps. |
