History and future.

You have bought one watch, a relatively entry-ish watch.

Now you want one of the most desired Rolexes on the market.

They know that once you have what you wanted, and future purchase of two-toned stocking fillers are unlikely.

If you were the dealer, what would you do?

You say you’ve been “chasing” the BLNR for years but there’s certainly no shortage of them out there. I wouldn’t bother wasting anymore of your time. Just go straight to the grey dealer, pay a bit less for the DJ and a lot more for the BLNR if you really want it.

The alternative seems to be brown nosing a sales assistant for months/years, spending money on items you don’t want and losing a bit of your self respect, dignity and soul in the process!

Why shouldn't I get more pieces from them? Especially if they treat me well.
Really I don't get it...
I'm not interested in Daytona, BLRO, wouldn't even ask for those, as they are not appealing to me.
I might actually get another DJ or a daydate in the next future.

I almost pulled the trigger, pre-covid, on a batman from a reseller.
My wife convinced me to wait over night, went back to the reseller the day after and it was gone.
This was back in Italy.
I could have purchased it here from a reseller in NY, as on 47th street there is a huge number of them. Unfortunately I have to say that they don't have the same appealing to me.
It's not only for the premium, of course I don't like to support flippers and resellers, but I just don't like how cheap they look in that setting and I don't feel like I'm getting my watch.

In my case, I actually wanted the first DJ, and I really want the second DJ for my wife. So, I don't feel I'm losing any dignity in this process.

Worked for me.

New AD, no purchase history, milestone birthdays for wife and I - basically offered to bundle a DJ and a BLRO - AD came through for us.

If you intend to buy the DJ anyway, I can't see the harm in asking.

Thanks for sharing!

Well, if it worked for you with no history and a BLRO... I might actually have some chances.

Can I ask how long did they take to deliver?

Smaller market, longstanding independent AD.

Originally spoke to them around September/October 2020, collected both watches on the same visit in July 2021 - essentially it was on a 'all or nothing' basis as my wife and I had alternative choices if the Rolex angle didn't come through, and we were honest and told the AD that.

They went above and beyond to help us out - great AD, genuine people with a real appreciation of the watches they sell and the customers they sell to.

If there are other close ADs then pay a visit to them too. Worth a shot to ask around.

I see, that's the way to go then. It would be difficult, but still something I might attempt, maybe with a different AD. The one I got my DJ from is in a pretty big city.
Thank you so much for sharing the details!

Oops, that should have read September/October 2019 - and collected July 2020. This whole COVID thing has distorted my timelines!
