Considering 2:1 Trade - DDSD JC + TTSD = DD40?

Ok fellas so here is the scenario...

I own a 2020 TTSD and a 2020 DSSD JC... the TTSD is my every day wear, golf, gym, out. Gets lots of compliments, the gold flash & richness, and I love the SD fit. Previously owned the SD43 and the size & fit is perfect for me.

I picked up the DSSD JC later in a bit of a random trade up (for the SD43), and I love the watch, the gradient blue face, bulk, and relative rarity... but unfortunately I rarely wear it. Just doesn’t come out of the dugout enough. And too heavy to golf in.

The YG Day Date is as close to a “grail” watch for me as i can think of, but...

1. Does it makes sense to give up 2 watches for 1? Even if 1 is only worn rarely

2. Not sure if I can golf or be as active w a YG Day Date as a Sea Dweller, so that means less use (enjoyment). Anyone golf w a DD?

3. As stated above, the DSSD is a unique pseudo investment piece- if it ever gets discontinued. Would hate to have FOMO

4. YG Day Date is much more flashy, which may be good or bad. I love it in most situations... but Might be “too much” in certain work / professional situations, I.e. Don’t want to be give off the wrong impression, and worried a $40k all gold watch might be

5. Not an even trade... will likely cost another $7-8k for a mint / new

6. The TTSD was purchased from an AD that I’ve built some rapport with. I would hate to throw it away and start over / only have reseller options if and when I want to add to the collection

7. Btw - My wife would divorce me if I just bought a new DD and kept the others...


Would love any thoughts... such a “tough” call. Rolex forum problems... Haven’t slept for days lol jk

Two for one is always tough. In this case though I think it might be a good trade. Admittedly I’m not a TT fan, and if you still had the SD43, which I am wearing right now, I’d probably have a different answer. A TT SD plus a watch you rarely wear, agree the DSSD is just too big, is a trade I’d make.

What DD? I’d get a WG green dial in a heartbeat, if it wouldn’t land me in divorce court like you.

The Day Date is way more formal. You described your lifestyle as playing some golf, out with family or friends, gym, etc. That's the definition of a sports model watch. To me, the Day Date is great for the Oscars or Grammys with the tux. It really is up to you. And if it's your grail watch, then go for it. Don't live with regrets. Get the watch you want and love.

i recently just parted with three watches for one. I felt guilty having two watches sitting around. The reality was i would enjoy the one Rolex more than owning the other 3 watches. I like playing a what if game. If your two watches were sitting on one table and the DD was sitting on a different table and you had 30 seconds to make a decision, which table would you pick. That will be your answer.

A lot of good thoughts already shared, but I’d actually support this kind of trade. The DD40, as you describe it, is like a grail for you. It is a very cool watch. I say get it, and then get an affordable true tool watch like a Pelagos to go with it. Best wishes

To Op, I have JC, some other steel, two tones and dd40’s in yellow and rose.... knowing how I wear the dd’s in collection I don’t think I can recommend one as an only
Personally it seems like you get your gold flash fill and fix plus the sporty nature and use from that tt we... to me the JC dial and what it is is just such a unique piece....

Personally I feel it would disrupt your wear and enjoyment
I don’t think you’ll be wearing gold dd to gym, golf etc

Easier said than done I’d save up for dd and add it or maybe let go of the tt sd, get the gold and then you have your steel sport also.

Personally, if I were in your shoes I would enjoy what I already have instead of continuously chasing the next watch, and the next, and the next, and the next....

1. If it makes sense, sure.

2. I golf with any watch. Even a 50 year old DJ. Have golfed with others who wear even “dressier” and actual dress watches.

3. No input.

4. You shouldn’t worry about what others think of your watch. Hardly anyone actually cares, and if they do they’ll forget after 5 minutes as they are consumed by their own issues.

5. Definitely won’t do it if I had to add cash on top.

6. Your property. You’re allowed to do with it as you please.

7. If she really did over something trivial like this. It’s her loss not yours.

You're an adult buy what you like. You said you want to keep the JC in case it gets discontinued and you end up with FOMO. I appreciate your candor since that's what 99% of this forum has become, people worried about resale and future value. Its a watch, trends can change and all of them could be worth f all in the future. Rolex makes a million watches a year so they're hardly rare items. Take a step back and think of what watch you actually like and will be happy to wear. One of my favorite watches is my YM42 and its 35k watch with no upside, but every time I pick it up and look at it on my wrist I love it

If you want to keep her then I would do the trade and grab a less expensive piece for golf and other activities that you don't want to wear the DD.

Don’t think of it as giving up some for one. Think of it as moving up. I am willing t bet you’ll add "a 2nd watch” after the DD. But for now I’d think you’re absolutely fine wearing a DD through anything life can throw at you. It just takes some getting used to.

I always get a big laugh out of anyone who frowns on golfing in your watch for mechanical reasons. Any of your watches can take much much more than that.

Now if it interferes with your swing, that’s entirely different.

Only do the trade if you love the DD. If not, you’ll end up back where you are but with less $$$ in your pocket.

I’m sure plenty have given this same reply:

I’d say sell the DSSD and save some more bread on top to eventually get your DD;
a DD plus the TTSD makes a *formidable* 2-piece combo.

I personally wouldn’t want a PM piece for a one and only, and that 2-piece (DD+TTSD) would cover most (if not all) bases.

Shit, eventually add a ss GMT to that 2-piece and it’s a wrap. Change my mind.
