GMT 3185 Setting Date Backwards

Hi folks, I know that on then 3185, if you move the jump hand backwards past midnight, it will change to the previous date. It makes sense for this to work when traveling, and I would expect a traveler would only go backwards through midnight once in setting to a new timezone.

My question is, is this OK to do this for more than 1 day? In other words, if your watch has stopped on the 10th and you try to reset on the 1st, rather than going forward 22 days, is it ok to cycle the jump hand backwards 9 days? Is the movement built to allow for the hand to be jumped backwards that much in one go?

Yes perfectly fine to do it for more than 1 day. It’s the inherent function of the watch. It’s even on the owners manual but I guess no one reads those anymore.

Ha, I actually did read mine before I posted but I bought the watch in 1990 and the old manual was not specific on this. It was my daily for years so I never dealt with this but now that I have several watches, it’s something that I started wondering about because it will make resetting easier.

Wasn’t referring to you specifically, meant it more in general.

Your 3185 has a minor difference from the 3186 in the first 116710. Namely the nivarox (3185) vs. parachrom blue (3186) hairspring, and the jump hour click spring (3186). Which by the way is inherently flimsier than your 3185 that has a whole ratchet wheel. The skinny jump hour click spring on the 3186 was notorious for breaking.
