Lange Saxonia Thin - WG or RG?

I’ve had my sights set on this watch for a few years now but was waiting for a particular occasion/excuse to buy it. That occasion has now arisen (along with a few price increases along the way ), but I am having second thoughts about which metal to go for.

Originally, I thought RG looked great but then decided WG was the way to go. WG has a certain coolness and understated vibe (more likely to be mistaken for stainless steel by the average man on the street), whereas RG is clearly a precious metal and more traditional. I was getting ready to purchase the WG version and all of a sudden saw the RG and can’t get it out of my head. My other watches are all steel sports watches, so a bit of warmth wouldn’t go amiss. But I think WG will be much easier to dress down when not wearing suit/office clothing.

How have others decided on which metal to go for when purchasing a Lange or any other dress watch? Any regrets?

My vote would be for the rose gold. The German silver movement has such a warmth to its color that it harmonizes well with a case that has a similar warm tone to it. Not to mention, the contrast of the indices on the dial. White gold leaves me feeling cold, unless you happen to go for the gold-flux variant in copper-black.

The RG is beautiful, but… I feel like there may be a better watch out there for me in RG to add when the time is right (1815, Cellini Moonphase…) I’ll have another look in store to compare and contrast.

I prefer pink gold but white gold is more versatile, easier to dress down, and more under the radar.

I tried on a RG one and would definitely have to say rose gold over WG for a dress watch. I think it’d be pretty difficult overall to dress it down anyways. That being said, the watch didn’t feel that amazing in the flesh compared to the photos. A lot of the charm is lost when you can’t see the movement while it’s on your wrist.

WG for sure. Way more flexible in general even if sticking to suits.

It has to come from your character - you are either 'understated' or not. For me I like my watches stealthy and flying below the radar, so I will never consider anything else than Steel, WG or P.

I was at the boutique today and this sealed the decision - WG just worked better for me for some reason.

But then I tried on an 1815 small seconds also in WG - doh! Such a different watch but so beautiful. Too much choice. I wouldn’t have thought twice previously, but now that the Saxonia has had a significant price increase and is over £15k, it doesn’t seem like so much of a leap to the 1815.

I feel exactly the same. The Saxonia Thin looks better in pics than on the wrist / IRL. I like simple and minimal design in watches, less is more, but this dial is a little too empty for my liking, and the Saxonia Thin is pretty much all dial and hardly any bezel.
