Interesting development re IWC Ingenieur
So yesterday, I'm off to seek out a new strap for my IWC pilot chrono. I popped by the entirely refurbished boutique in Zurich. You should really see it, the remodeling they did is amazing. They took Breitling's idea of having their boutiques look like industrial lofts, took away all the surfing and injected a healthy dose of Mercedes tie ins (there is a fully restored 300 SL Gullwing just sitting there in the store). Though you could find it a bit cheesy, the result looks really nice.
Anyway, the omnipresence of the three pointed star led me to ask the sales person how they could, on one hand be so focussed on the world of motorsport but on the other hand have let down the ingenieur line entirely, instead seemingly desperately trying to shoehorn the motorsport angle into a pilot line that is really not suited to that. The answer was very interesting, in that a full revamp of the ingenieur line is apparently right around the corner. Of course, this just barely passes the "my AD told me" standard, but who knows, could be a very nice new line if it ended up being released. The only question that would remain would be how IWC could have waited as long, sitting on an actual Genta design and doing nothing about it until the shark had jumped itself so many times, that we're all collectively ready to move on. Whatever they do, it will be horribly late to the party, to the point it may have nothing else left to do but to clean the mess after we all left.

The current version is using Sellita movement...I was trying the rose gold one, looks real nice, went back to google it & lost all interest. Blasphemy is what it is.

The Omega Constellation was Genta, but will never be remained as a $25,000+ timepiece. |
