Porsche Design Watches: What's the Big Deal??

Anyone custom build a Porsche Design watch on the configurator they have? seems like a lot of money for a "Car watch" what's all the fuss about? did anyone ever plunk down 8K for one of these watches? doesn't look that special or worth 8K, seems like Marketing Hype if anything...

I'd rather just have the TAG/Porsche watch.

Lusted after them in the 80s and still have a bit of nostalgia for them but not enough to seek them out.

Same here and not interested in their more recent and current models.

The IWC Porsche Design Ocean 2000 remains my favorite but I don't seem to like it enough to ever pull the trigger.

When I think of Porsche Design watches I am not thinking of Porsche sports cars at all. The Porsche family member that was a designer just happened to design the 911 among tons of different products for daily use including the watches, that's all.

I think they are nice but seeing as I don’t drive one I’ve never given wearing one a real thought. I wonder how many wearers have never been in the Porsche club?

Honestly before reading the link cru posted I just assumed they were a typical product extension money grab. Seems like they have nice bit of history behind them.

I do know what you mean though. To everyone else a bit like those guys wearing the Ferrari polos driving a 3 series lol

I know they are popular and good quality from what has been said of them, but the name alone beckons memories of all the cheap Ferrari branded quartz and other luxury or sports branded items you typically find in TJmaxx and Ross. Even if they are reputable luxury watches it’s all a bit cheesy feeling to me.
