Vintage GMT Pepsi Help!

Hey Everyone, I'm new here so please point me in the right direction if this isn't the right place to post this. I recently picked up a 1983 GMT Pepsi #16750 (Birth date year watch for me) It's on a Jubilee that is pretty stretched out... Im worried it might break so I'm looking into getting it fixed ( if possible ) Will that lower the value? Do ya'll know anyone who can fix it? I live in Canada if that helps.

Im absolutely in love with this watch, and would even consider replacing the bracelet and keeping the original one. I dont plan on selling the watch and it's pretty much been my daily wear since I bought it.

Any help/advice would be great!

When you can post photos of the watch take a pic of the underside of end links so we can see the codes. If it’s an orig band she will have 50s stamped on the underside of the last link. It may be worth restoring. You see datejust 62510h bands with 555 end links added to these watches which is disappointing.

I just Checked and it has the 555, is that bad? I believe the watch is 1980 and they said the bracelet was from 1983, they didn't say it was from a Datejust. This is the first "Vintage" watch I've bought.

Go to a Rolex AD and order a new period correct jubilee bracelet and keep this one in a drawer.

It doesnt matter if its kept in a drawer because it isnt original to the watch.

OP, hopefully the price reflects a non original stretched out bracelet? Please post pics so we can see the case condition, dial and hands of the watch to make sure they arent service or aftermarket replacements. These things all greatly effect the overall value of the watch.

Got it for a pretty good price ( Around 14K CAD ) The case has a little wear. I don't really intend on letting go of it as its a bday year piece for me and I've wanted to get it for a while now.

How much would a new period correct jubilee bracelet go for?

555's are not GMT end links, they are for the 36mm DJ, but that, by itself, doesn't say much. If it does need a rebuild, there are a few places that you can send it - the first question is knowing if it is worth the rebuild.

Anybody can post images using the paperclip icon and meeting the size requirements.

Are you replying to me, because I must be missing your point.

He needs a bracelet for his watch, my suggestion is the best one out there. Get a new one from Rolex and enjoy the watch.

I’m in Ottawa, Canada. RollieWorks restored a very badly stretched oval link Jubilee for me earlier this year. It cost just under $900 ($C) all in, including shipping both ways and 13% HST on their work. That is about $725 USD.

The customer service and communication were first class, and the work was absolutely excellent. As well as the stretch, the sides of the clasp pocket were bent. Not any more….

I was completely and totally happy. Still am.

I suppose there is nothing like a picture for the full story. On a side note, I did not replace all of the damaged gold center links, there were just too many at $25 each. Rolliworks shifted them around to wear in different places. The bracelet itself came out a full inch shorter in the end. on another note, I am now of the opinion that I should have just purchased a lightly worn American made jubilee or oyster bracelet from the same period from EBAY. Very nice examples do come up from time to time.

Funnily enough, this is exactly the band you need for your GMT. Look at the 50s on the last link. I would try this; remove your old band. Put on a nato. Go to Rolex Toronto and tell them what you want. You can then just sell the existing band on eBay. It’s worth a shot. Or you could just wait for a nice 62510h to show up on eBay. The correct one is not so easy to come by. It’s an unusual part

My AD will sell you only whatever the latest version of the bracelet is. I'm not sure you can order a period-correct vintage model, but I consider the latest version an acceptable replacement.

Personally I would leave the watch as it is, the Jubilee bracelet may give you the impression that are weak but they’re not so easy to break,
or look for a 62510H from a trusted dealer.

Thank you. I was able to source my bracelet in Hong Kong from a seller who sent it directly to Michael. So while I saw it in pictures, I never had a feel for how bad it was in reality. All I can say though, he did a fantastic job and I would gladly work with him again. Timewise, took about a month. And as far as cost, it will vary depending on how much work needs to be done. But I will say, you're probably looking at anywhere between 1/3 and 1/2 the price of a new bracelet for just the repair work.
