That is absolutely amazing; but is it really possible with just a narrow wooden rod to hit the ball spot-on each time?

I don't know.
For me it would be but to a practiced martial artist maybe not. My son has been studying martial arts for 7 years; he can do physical things and with weapons that I would consider impossible to do (kids learn so much better than adults). If real, the individual in that video is exceptional.
