What strap to modernize?

Greetings folks. I'm not that versed on strap, lug sizes and do's and don'ts so thought I would come here for a recommendation.

I've always stayed away from gold watches as they remind me of my dad and his style was very different than my style. I mostly wear SS chrono's like a Daytona.

Lately I've been noticing a lot of gold rolex's making a comeback and I like the way they look on other people but it feels weird when I put one on, especially my dads watch.

Thought I would ask for some strap suggestions that might make this watch a little more sporty and to my taste.

I was thinking a BLACK rubber strap to go with the black face.. But wouldn't know what to order. I called one of those companies that makes custom colored rubber bracelets but they don't have anything that fits this watch...

You need a classic black alligator strap to that DD.

Rubber on a DD? No - that will cheapen the DD.

I'm not an alligator guy. Too fancy. I want to make it a little sportier. I'm a jeans a t-shirt guy so alligator, etc. doesn't fit my style.

There is really only a few choices:

- Leather
- Rubber/silicone
- Alligator
- Nato/perlon/MN-strap

Many watches suits all of these, but a YG DD...it will not suit all of these. IMHO.

If alligator nor a leather strap is you style, then you are left with only synthetic or rubber. Personally these will not suit a YG DD - but follow your heart here.

So, while I’d never wear it either, I think a matte white would be the perfect “look” for that watch. Deep red, too.

Light brown ostrich could work as well.

Don’t go rubber, as others have said. If you want synthetic perhaps there’s a textile strap that would work?

Let me propose something different:

The presidential bracelet on the day data is something special and quintessential to the watch. Kind of like the red stitching on a baseball. I'd though have the bracelet repaired since it's looking stretched.

What I'd do instead is a dial swap to a lighter, more sporty face and a hands swap to lumed hands. The world is your oyster in that regard.

Putting anything other than leather on this watch would be violently sacrilegious. Spend some with wearing it on the bracelet and you'll soon fall in love!!!!

That’s a beautiful day date! I guarantee you that you can dress down a YG day Date. Nothing like the president bracelet IMO

If you’re open to it, I agree - try it out for awhile. You might find out you like it?

I put a Barton Racing Horween Leather strap on my GMT for a change. They have a huge selection and are reasonably priced.

I was actually looking into their rubber / silicon straps. Do you own any of those and if so would you recommend? (Sorry OP don’t mean to thread jack). Feel free to PM me separately to keep the thread on topic if necessary

Since a few of you suggested I have the bracelet "repaired".... Do I need to bring it to an AD? Or can I bring it to a reputable watch place like Feldmar (If you are in LA)?
Does the cost of service with an AD make sense?

Also, what else should I have done to it while it's in for service?
Should I also drop off my SS Daytona and have them clean it up? It runs fine.

Isn't there also a difference between a cleaning they do on site and the type of cleaning they do when it goes to the factory?

My favorite strapmaker is Atelier Romane in France. Shipping takes forever but totally worth it.

For a bracelet repair you have LA Watch Works locally. They have a great reputation.

Get something custom. There are lots of options, I’ve had excellent experience with combat-straps.com.

I agree with this.

There are a lot of choices in terms of style to either dress up or dress down with leather options.

I personally think that alligator is an excellent choice, as it is durable and there are options in terms of stitching that would make the watch dressier or sportier.

Only one way to go IMO: black unlined shell cordovan. Let it be what it is, which is a stone cold killer dress watch you can wear with a suit or jeans and a t-shirt.

I believe yours is a 20mm.
